CORRECT USE AND APPLICATION
5.4.2. Returning the truck to operation following decommission
FOREWORD
Thank you for purchasing our pallet truck.
This manual is about how to use, operate and maintain pallet trucks A170148 (EPT20-
15HJ) - A170149 (EPT20-15ET). The operator in charge of the truck must read the manual
carefully before operating the truck.
We reserve the right to modify the truck at any time. As a result, there may be some dif-
ferences between your product and the description given in this manual.
If you have any questions, please contact the sales department or inform the dealer.
WARNING
TO PREVENT SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS, PLEASE OB-
SERVE THE FOLLOWING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
These trucks can be dangerous if regular maintenance work is not carried out. As a result,
adequate maintenance facilities, trained personnel and standard procedures should be
provided.
Maintenance and inspection should be completed in accordance with the following practices:
1. A scheduled planned maintenance, lubrication and inspection system should be followed.
2. Only qualified and authorised personnel are permitted to maintain, repair, adjust
and inspect the trucks.
3. Before leaving the truck:
• Do not park the truck on an incline.
• Fully lower the load forks.
• Set the key switch to the «off» position and remove the key.
4. Before operating the truck:
• Ensure that you are in the operating position.
• Place the directional control in neutral.
• Before operating the truck, check that the lift system, directional control, speed
control, steering, warning devices and brake functions are all in working order.
5. Avoid fire hazards and ensure that you have access to fire protection equipment. Do not
use a naked flame to check the lever, or to check for electrolyte, fluid or oil leaks. Do not
use open containers of fuel or flammable cleaning fluids to clean parts.
6. Brakes, steering mechanisms, control mechanisms, guards and safety devices should be
inspected regularly and maintained in a usable condition.
7. Capacity, operation and maintenance instruction plates or decals should all be main-
tained in a legible condition.
8. All lifting mechanism components should be inspected to ensure that they are main-
tained in a safe operating condition.
9. All hydraulic systems should be inspected regularly and maintained in accordance with
good practices. Cylinders, valves and other similar parts should be checked to ensure that
«drift» has not developed to the extent that it would create a hazard.
10. Trucks should be kept clean to minimise the risk of fire and to facilitate the detection
of loose or defective parts.
11. Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation of the truck
should not be completed by the customer or user without prior written approval from the
manufacturer. Capacity, operation and maintenance plates or decals should be changed
accordingly.
CORRECT USE AND APPLICATION
The «Guidelines for the Correct Use and Application of Industrial Trucks» (VDMA) are sup-
plied with the truck. These guidelines form part of these operating instructions and must
be observed. National regulations apply in full.
The truck described in this operator manual is an industrial truck designed for lifting and
trans- porting loads.
It must be used, operated and serviced in accordance with these instructions. Any other
use is beyond the scope of application and may result in injury to personnel and damage
to the truck or property. In particular, avoid overloading the truck with loads which are
too heavy or placed on one side. The data plate affixed to the truck or the load diagram
must be adhered to in terms of the maximum load capacity. The industrial truck must not
be used in areas where there is a risk of fire or explosion, or areas where there is a risk of
corrosion or excessive dust.
Responsibilities of the owner
For the purposes of this operator manual, the «owner» is defined as any natural or legal
person who either uses the industrial truck himself, or on whose behalf it is used. In spe-
cial cases (e.g. leasing or renting), the owner is considered to be the person who, in accor-
dance with existing contractual agreements between the owner and user of the industrial
truck, is responsible for operational duties. The proprietor must ensure that the truck is
used only for the purpose it is intended for and that danger to life and limb of the user and
third parties is kept to a minimum. Furthermore, accident prevention regulations, safety
regulations and operating, servicing and repair guidelines must be followed. The proprie-
tor must ensure that all truck users have read and understood this operator manual.
Failure to comply with the operator manual shall invalidate the warranty. The same applies
if improper work is carried out on the truck by the customer or third parties without per-
mission from the manufacturer's customer service department.
Fitting accessories
Fitting or installing additional equipment which affects or enhances the performance of
the indus- trial truck requires written permission from the manufacturer. In some cases,
approval from a local authority will also be required.
However, approval from the local authorities does not constitute manufacturer approval.
