4.3.2 Starting the device normally

– Connect a power cord to the device and switch the device on at the power switch.
The self-test routine now starts. For approx. 5 sec. the KARL STORZ welcome screen appears on the display.
– Another screen is then displayed for about 2 sec. You should check the screen for any faulty pixels,
and if necessary record them in the test report.
An audible ready signal will then be sounded and the procedure list displayed.
Note:
The procedure list is dependent on the device type and the user-defined procedures!
– In the lower right-hand corner of the screen the date and time are displayed. Record the fact that the
clock is functioning (the seconds can be seen passing) as a live signal in the test record.

4.3.3 Detecting the footswitches

Footswitch detection is performed using the footswitches supplied. As an example, the test conducted
on the dual-pedal footswitch to ensure proper operation is presented below. The messages that apply to
the triple-pedal and single-pedal footswitches can be found in Chapter 3.4.1 Error codes.
– Switch the device on without the footswitch, see Chapter 4.3.2 Starting the device normally.
– Connect the dual-pedal footswitch to one of the two sockets.
The message "A-84: Dual-pedal footswitch recognized" is shown in turquoise in the status line for 3
seconds.
– Disconnect the footswitch.
The message "A-85: Dual-pedal footswitch disconnected" is shown in turquoise in the status line for 3
seconds.
– Connect the footswitch to the second socket.
The message "A-84: Dual-pedal footswitch recognized" is shown in turquoise in the status line for 3
seconds.
