PREPARATION FOR STORING THE
ENGINE
It is essential that you prepare the engine
correctly for storage in order to keep it free of
malfunctions and maintain its appearance. The
following steps will help you prevent engine
corrosion and the resulting deteriorated function
and appearance of the engine. It will also make it
easier to start the engine when using it again.
WARNING
When storing the equipment with fuel in
the tank: Store the equipment where it
will not be near stoves, furnaces, boilers
or other appliances with a pilot light or
other potential sources of ignition. These
could ignite petrol vapours.
The following precautions must be taken when
storing your equipment for over 30 days or over
the winter season:
• Drain the oil while the engine is warm.
• Clean the engine and remove all dirt and
debris.
• Drain all fuel into a suitable canister and
store it. Add fuel stabiliser to extend fuel
storage life.
Note:
Petrol oxidises during storage and
breaks down. Deteriorated petrol makes it
more difficult to start the engine and leaves
deposits in the fuel system, which clog it. If
the petrol deteriorates during storage, this
can result in the need for repairs or
replacement of the carburettor and other
parts of the fuel system. The warranty does
not apply to damage to the fuel system or
problems with engine function as a result of
neglecting preparation for storage. We
recommend that you do not use petrol older
than 30 days.
• Remove the spark plug and pour a
teaspoon (15 ml) of oil into the cylinder
through the spark plug hole.
• Crank the engine eight to ten times by
pulling on the starter cord (slowly)! This
lubricates the working surface of the
cylinder and pistons. Screw the spark plug
back on and tighten it. Any residual oil will
combust during subsequent operation. This
may cause white smoke when the engine is
first started.
• Store the machinery in a level working
position, with the engine spark plug at the
top. Do not store the engine with the spark
plug at the bottom.
EN
Note:
Storing the engine with the spark
plug in any position but at the
recommended position will result in it being
difficult to start and smoke coming from the
exhaust (oil will enter engine areas it is not
meant to enter). In some cases this will
require intervention by an authorised
servicing facility.
• If a battery is used, recharge it; repeat this
if you store the machine for over 3 months.
• The storage area must be clean and dry.
Moisture encourages corrosion.
• Always use fresh petrol when operating the
engine after it has been stored. Carry out
the pre-operational checks (see
maintenance plan and starting the engine)
before putting into operation.
TRANSPORT
WARNING
When transporting the engine: Always
transport a cold engine with AN EMPTY
fuel tank or closed fuel shut-off valve.
Ensure that the engine is kept in a level position
when being transported to reduce the risk of fuel
leakage.
