AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE

(see fig. 8.1)
A clogged air filter restricts air-flow into the
carburettor and results in reduced engine power.
Always check the air-filter before you use the
engine. The air filter will require cleaning more
frequently if the engine is operated in a dusty
environment.
WARNING
Operating the engine without an air filter
or with a damaged air filter may cause
debris to enter the engine and its rapid
wear. The warranty does not apply to this
type of defect.
Removal / installation of the air filter
1. Remove the nut (1) if used or press the lever
(3) or turn the cap (2) to release the locking
elements and remove the cap.
2. Remove the filter (4). Proceed carefully to
prevent any dust and debris from falling into
the holder (6).
3. Clean the filter or replace with a new one.
4. Fit the filter (4) into the filter holder (6). Make
sure that the filter is seated correctly. Fit and
secure the cap.
Cleaning the air filter
1. If equipped with a pre-filter, separate the
paper insert from the foam pre-filter.
2. Tap the paper insert to remove loose dust.
3. Wash the foam filter/pre-filter in warm water
and detergent or soap. Let it dry completely.
Saturate in clean engine oil before replacing.
Squeeze excess oil into a clean, dry cloth.
Note:
If any part of the filter is damaged or
cannot be cleaned, replace with a new filter.
4. If the model is equipped with a pre-cleaner,
fit the pre-cleaner onto the paper insert.
5. Replace the filter.
Note:
Do not use pressurised air or solvents
to clean the filter. This could damage the
filter.
CHECK SPARK PLUGS
(see fig. 8.2)
Remove the cable end-piece from the spark plug
and disassemble it. Use a scraper or wire brush
to clean carbon residue from the electrode.
Check that the spark plug is not worn or
damaged, that the spark plug insulation is not
cracked, etc. Replace with a new spark plug if
necessary.
EN
Check the gap between the electrodes and spark
plug and adjust if necessary. The gap must be
0.7-0.8 mm. If you want to modify the gap, only
bend the lateral electrode.
Screw the spark plug back in by hand. Then
tighten with a spanner so that the washer is
compressed. When reinstalling the original spark
plug, tighten it by another 1/8 to 1/4 turn after it
has been seated. When installing new spark
plugs, tighten the spark plug by another 1/2 turn
after it has been seated.
Replace the cable end-piece onto the spark plug.
Recommended spark plug: Torch F7RTC or
equivalent.
WARNING Using the incorrect spark plugs can
damage the engine.

DRAINING THE OIL

(see fig. 8.3)
WARNING
When draining the oil through the oil
drain, the fuel tank must be empty or the
fuel can leak and cause a fire or
explosion.
Drain the engine oil while the engine is warm.
Warm oil drains faster and more completely,
along with any debris.
1. Unscrew the dipstick (G).
2. Prepare a suitable container for the oil.
3. Unscrew the oil drain plug (M) and let the oil
drain into the container.
Note:
An oil pump can be used to drain the
oil. This allows the oil to be drained without
tilting the engine and draining the fuel or
removing the oil drain plug. Request
information from your dealer.
4. Screw the plug back in with the seal and
tighten with a spanner.
5. Position the engine so it is level and fill with
the recommended oil to the full indicator on
the dipstick (see above).
WARNING Used oil is hazardous waste and must
be disposed of according to the valid regulations.
Do not dispose of with household waste. Check
with the local authorities or your dealer for safe
disposal.
