petrol and the EM (Engine Modifications) system
applies for the emission check.
Adding fuel (see fig. 7.1)
WARNING
Petrol and its vapours are extremely
flammable and explosive.
Fire or explosion could cause serious
burns and death.
Switch the engine off and leave it to cool
for at least 2 minutes before you remove
the fuel tank cap.
Always add fuel outside, or in a well-
ventilated area.
Always store fuel out of reach of sparks,
open flames, appliance pilot lights or
other potential sources of ignition. These
could ignite petrol vapours. Check the
fuel lines, tank, cap and fittings for
damage or leaks. Replace if necessary.
If any fuel is spilled, wait until it
evaporates before starting the engine.
1. Clean any dirt and debris away from the area
around the tank cap. Remove the cap.
2. Fill the fuel tank with petrol. Do not overfill the
fuel tank. Leave space for the fuel to expand
by not filling past the bottom of the fuel tank
filler neck.
3. Replace the fuel tank cap.
Petrol oxidises during storage and breaks down.
Deteriorated petrol makes it more difficult to start
the engine and leaves deposits in the fuel
system, which clog it.
The maximum period you can leave petrol in the
fuel tank and carburettor without this causing
functional issues differs depending on various
factors, such as the type of petrol, storage
temperature and whether the tank is full or not.
Air in a partially filled tank encourage petrol
deterioration. High storage temperatures promote
petrol deterioration. Issues can manifest within
several months or earlier, if fresh petrol was not
used to fill the tank. We recommend you do not
use petrol over 30 days old.

8. MAINTENANCE

THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE

High-quality maintenance is essential for
assuring safe and economic operation, free of
malfunction. It also helps protect the
environment.
WARNING
Incorrect maintenance or neglecting to
repair any problems before putting the
engine into operation can cause incorrect
function, as a result of which you could
suffer serious or fatal injury.
Always follow the recommendations and
inspection and maintenance plans set
out in these instructions.
To make it easier to care for your engine
correctly, we provide a maintenance plan,
standard inspection procedures and procedures
for simple maintenance using basic hand tools on
the following pages.
Other maintenance procedures, which are more
complex or require specialised tools, should be
entrusted to professionals and are usually carried
out by our technician or other qualified
mechanics.
The maintenance plan applies under normal
operating conditions.
If you operate the engine under extreme
conditions, for instance non-stop or at high
power, or under high temperatures, or use it in an
abnormally wet or dusty environment, consult the
servicing procedures with your dealer and
request recommendations for your individual
requirements and conditions of use.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DURING
MAINTENANCE
We give several important safety precautions
below. However, it is not in our power to warn
you against all potential risks present when
carrying out maintenance. Only you can decide
whether you should carry out the specific
procedure or not.
WARNING
If you do not follow the instructions and
implement the recommended
precautions when carrying out
maintenance, you expose yourself to the
risk of serious or even fatal injury.
