4.3 FORWARD MOVEMENT - SHIFTING

- Model with rear attachments (4 forward gears + 3
reverse gears).
- Model with front accessories, 3 forward speeds +
3 reverse (a special locking system prevents the
engagement of the 4° speed in the reverse.
In order to engage the gears and to move the ma-
chine forward, carry out the following operations (Fig.
1/1A):
- Let the engine idle by moving the lever (10).
- Pull the clutch lever (12) completely.
- Select one of the speeds by pulling or pushing the
speeds selection lever (17), see nameplate and pic-
togram in Fig. 3/3A, according to the type of ground
to work on, to the available engine power and the
use.
Remember that each position of the change gear
(gear or neutral position) corresponds to one click
of the selection lever).
- Release the clutch lever slowly and accelerate up
to the desired speed.
- In order to stop the machine, pull the clutch lever
and put the gear lever (17) in the neutral position.

4.3.1 REVERSE MOVEMENT

Thanks to a special accident prevention system, the
reverse gear is engaged and the machine moves only
when the operator holds the handlebars firmly and
shifts the lever (13 Fig.1/1A).
In order to put the machine into reverse, carry out
the following operations (Fig. 1/1A):
- Let the engine idle by moving the lever (10).
- Pull the clutch lever (12) completely.
- Pull or push, depending on the configuration, the
speed selection lever until the desired speed is en-
gaged. A special pictogram (10 Fig. 3-3A) indicates
the engaged speed.
- Move the reverse gear engaging lever (13).
- Release the clutch lever slowly and accelerate.
- To stop travelling in the reverse speed, pull the
clutch lever (12) and put the gearbox in neutral.
WARNING
Never engage the forward gears or the reverse gear
without pulling the clutch lever in advance.

4.4 DURING OPERATION

- When you cross slippery or sinking grounds, drive
slowly.
WARNING
- Do not cross yielding grounds where the machine
might overturn; run at minimum speed in reverse
by paying attention not to stumble on obstacles;
if this happens, immediately release the control
devices and the machine will stop automatically.
- The obstacles must be passed at reduced speed
and any driving reaction must be controlled.
WARNING
- Do not start the machine abruptly.
- Do not transport persons or animals in the ma-
chine.
4.4.1 USE OF THE MACHINES ON SLOPES
- When running on slopes, use only slow travel
speeds by driving at the minimum.
- Never cross more than 20% steep slopes; never
cross slopes with disengaged clutch or gearbox in
neutral, use the braking effect of the engine.
- Park on slopes only if there is no other option.
In this case, always make sure that the machine is
stopped in a correct and safe way.
- Do not move on long and steep side slopes; the
maximum side slopes it is safe to work on is 20%.
- Avoid rapid turns on slopes; they can make the
machine overturn.
- Pay a lot of attention when crossing obstacles on
slopes, because the barycentre moving from one
side to the other can cause jolts to the machine,
compromising its balance.

4.4.2 PARKING

WARNING
Do not park the machine near yielding grounds, near
slopes, ditches or steep grounds.
Never let the machine unattended when stopped.
On request, the motor cultivator may be equipped
with drum brakes on the two wheels with independ-
ent controls on the handlebars (Fig. 11).
By pulling the brakes control levers to the stop, that
is towards the operators, these are kept locked; this
helps a safety parking of the machine.
