Low water (only with p-c)
A low-water signal can be fed to the control system through a
normally closed contact by means of a signal from a suction-
side pressure switch, break tank float switch or optional level
relay. The pumps will be switched off after a delay time that
can be adjusted under 3.1. If the signal input is closed again
within the delay time, then this will not lead to a shutdown.
The installation is restarted automatically after being shut down
due to low water 10 seconds after the closing of the signal
input.
Setpoint changeover
The control system can work with 3 various setpoints. Their set-
ting is carried out in Menus 3.1 to 3.3.
Setpoint 1 is the reference setpoint. A switchover to setpoint 2
or 3 takes place either according to the time of day (Menus 3.2
and 3.3) or by the closing of the external digital inputs (in
accordance with wiring diagram). setpoint 3 takes priority over
setpoint 2 (see also logic diagram under 7.2).
The installation is shut down when the activated setpoint 2 or 3
is set to zero.
Remote setpoint adjustment
Remote adjustment of the setpoint can be carried out by
means of an analogue current signal through the correspond-
ing terminals (in accordance with wiring diagram). This operat-
ing mode can be selected in Menu 3.4. The selection of the
signal type (0-20 mA or 4-20 mA) is also accomplished in this
menu. The input signal is always in reference to the sensor
measurement range (e.g. DDG40: 20 mA corresponds to 40 m
(WS)).
The installation is shut down when the activated external set-
point is set to zero.
Operation with sensor fault
The behaviour of the switchgear in the event of a sensor fault
(e.g. wire breakage) can be established in Menu 4.3.2.3. The
installation can be either switched off or allowed to run with
either all pumps at maximum speed or with one pump at a
speed that can be set under 4.3.5.1.
Emergency operation
In the event that the control system fails, it is possible to put the
individual pumps into operation on the mains using the Hand-
0-Auto switch (Fig. 1.1/1.2; Item No. 8).

6.1.5 Motor protection

Excess temperature protection
Motors with thermal winding contacts (winding-protection
contact) signal a thermal winding excess temperature to the
control device through the opening of a bimetal contact. The
thermal winding contact connection is accomplished in
accordance with the wiring diagram.
Faults in motors which are equipped with PTC thermistor sensors
for excess temperature protection can be recorded through
optional evaluation relays.
Excess-current protection
Motors at switchgears up to and including 4.0 kW are pro-
tected by means of motor protection switches with thermal
and electromagnetic actuators. The trigger current must be
set directly.
Motors at switchgears starting from 5.5 kW are protected by
means of thermal overload relays. These are installed directly
at the motor contacts. The trigger current must be set and
amounts to 0.58 * I
rated
is used.
All motor protection devices protect the motor during opera-
tion with the frequency converter or in mains operation. Pump
faults which build up at the switchgear lead to a switching off
of the respective pump and to an activation of the SSM. A fault
acknowledgement is required once the cause of the fault has
been eliminated.
The motor protection is also active in emergency operation
and causes deactivation of the corresponding pump.
