6. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT AND THE
ACCESSORIES
6.1 Description of the control system
6.1.1 Function description
The Comfort Control System that is controlled by means of a
programmable logic controller (SPS) is used to control individ-
ual and multiple pumps. The respective controlled variable of
an installation is controlled in a load-sensitive manner by
means of corresponding signal transmitters. The controller has
an effect on a frequency converter in the case of installations
which are equipped with a frequency converter (version 'FC')
which in turn affects the speed of a pump. A modification of
the speed changes the flow volume and thus the power out-
put of the pump system.
Only the base-load pump is controlled in speed-controlled
installations. Depending on the load demand, uncontrolled
peak-load pumps are switched on and off automatically,
whereby the respective base-load pump assumes responsibil-
ity for fine-tuning to the preset setpoint. The control systems are

the control requirements. It is to be noted that the temperature
controls n=f(Tx) can be applied only with single pump drives.
Feed or return temperature-sensitive peak-load operation is
technically not feasible.
6.1.2 Construction of the control device
The construction of the control device depends on the capac-
ity of the pumps to be connected (direct-starting: Fig. 1.1 or
star/delta start-up: Fig. 1.2). It consists of the following main
components:
•Main switch: On/Off switching of the switchgear (Item No. 1)
•Touchscreen: Display of the operating data (see Menus) and
the operating state by means of the changing colours of the
backlighting. Optional menu selection and entering of param-
eters with the touch-sensitive surface (Item No. 2).
•Programmable logic controller: Modularly constructed SPS
with power supply unit. The respective configuration (see
below) is system-dependent (Item No. 3)
