Horizontal Mixer-Shredding in the Wagon

The order for introducing these subjects, normally correspond to the operating sequence, but we wish
to remind you that such sequence is not in any way mandatory.
1) Inserting long fiber ingredients.
Hay, straw, and forage from long fiber or bails must be inserted, using a wheel loader or another
system, over and into the bin or using the milling machine. This system makes it possible to cut the
ingredients using a large number of blades, and therefore, this reduces the cutting time. The loading
must be done a little at a time, in order to reduce the strain on the involved components and achieve the
best precision in the weight of the defined load.
It is important to stress in this method, the time invested is the same, or even less, when compared to
loading large quantities, all at once.
NOTE: During the loading, cutting, and mixing phase, the rotation of the power take-off must
be fast enough, around 540 rpm. In cases of smaller quantities of ingredients, due to the
volumetric capacity of the bin, it is possible for the ingredients to get stuck in the lower thread
blades. Thus, in order to avoid this problem, it is necessary to load the starchy ingredients
before the others, as to increase the weight and the friction inside the bin.
2) Cutting the ingredients inserted in the bin.
After the loading operation of the ingredients in the bin, observe the thread blades rotating for a short
period, in order to achieve the length of the fiber for the desired purpose. This time can vary from 2 to 8
minutes, depending on the type of silage ingredients being inserted in the wagon, the structure, and
the amount of ingredients to be inserted after that. Therefore, it is essential that the operator, never
leave the machine unattended for obvious safety reasons, in order to visually check this phase of the
operation from the rear cover.
3) Loading the starchy ingredients.
Normally, they are inserted after the cutting phase of the fiber. However, it can be convenient to load it
previously, whenever the other ingredients are especially light, loose hays or straw, in order to make
the weight more uniform, there by favoring the cutting and consequently reducing the volume.
4) Loading the pre-cut dry ingredients.
The loading of this type of ingredients, whether store bulk, or packaged, should never be done using
the milling machine, and it can be done in this phase, or after adding water, according to the specific
structure of your machine.
5) Adding water or molasses.
The addition of liquids increases the specific weight of the ingredients, favoring reduction in the volume
of the fiber. Normally, the increased weight also favors cutting, but it is necessary to consider that
certain types of long hay, increase the dampness and thus increase the cutting strain of the forage, and
consequently, the possibility to jam the threads of the worn gear.
In these conditions, the following is a good standard, if there are no problems regarding limitations of
volume, add water or molasses, when the hay is already partially cut, paying attention that it is spread
evenly through out the ingredients.
6) Loading pre-cut silage ingredients.
Normally this type of ingredients is loading with the milling machine. Who ever uses other systems for
loading (wheel loader etc) must pay attention to the storage of ingredients.
