Safety Functions when Using Day Use Tubing
EN
WARNING!
Only use the Day Use Tubing if it has been recognized by the arthroscopy pump
as such and the message "Day-Use Cassette inserted" appears on its display.
For safety reasons the Patient-Use Tubing is equipped with a backflow valve to
prevent contamination of the Day-Use Cassette Tubing. The backflow valve clos-
es if the actual pressure in the joint is higher than the pressure within the inflow
tubing and, as a result, reduces the risk of contamination by not allowing fluid to
flow back into the Day-Use Cassette Tubing. High pressure situations in the joint
may be induced when the outflow stopcock is abruptly closed, the joint is sud-
denly positioned in a way that reduces the joint capsule (e.g. bending the knee
joint to the "Figure 4" position) or any other external pressure on the joint. In the
event of a closed backflow valve the FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150) is
prevented from measuring the actual pressure in the joint for as long as the back-
flow valve is closed.
The roller wheel of the FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150) does not rotate
backwards to reduce pressure when used with a Day Use Tubing. If the actual
pressure, however, exceeds the nominal pressure, the motor stops to interrupt
the irrigation process. To reduce the pressure in the joint, open the outflow can-
nula/and or manipulate the joint to a stress-free position.
WARNING!
The FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150) does not reduce pressure by rotat-
ing the roller wheel backwards when used with the Day Use Tubing if the actual
pressure exceeds the nominal pressure.
WARNING!
The Patient-Use Tubing is equipped with a backflow valve that closes if the actu-
al pressure in the joint is higher than the pressure within the inflow tubing to
prevent contamination of the Day-Use Cassette Tubing. In the event of a closed
backflow valve, the FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150) is prevented from
measuring the actual pressure in the joint for as long as the backflow valve is
closed.
WARNING!
To prevent high pressure or overpressure situations in the joint that will not be
detected by the FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150), do not abruptly close
the outflow stopcock, position the joint in a way that reduces the joint capsule
(e.g. bending the knee joint to the "Figure 4" position) or apply external pressure
on the joint.
The electronic components continuously monitor the proper function of the de-
vice. Device malfunctions are indicated with audible warning signals, error mes-
sages, and/or the blocking of device functions.
NOTE!
The Speed Mode of the FloSteady Arthroscopy Pump (Model 150) is not available
if a Day Use Tubing is used.
If the pump detects a pressure of more than 250 mm Hg for more than 5 seconds,
Pressure >250 mm Hg
the motor is switched off to interrupt the irrigation process. The warning Critical
Overpressure is depicted on the function display.
