The device is equipped with an Auto calibration function. Auto calibration is used
if chosen from the instrument selection screen, set as default or small joint has
been selected. Before starting the current irrigation, the pump identifies the re-
sistance of the instrument attached to the tubing and considers this value during
the following procedure.
NOTE!
Successful Auto calibration is indicated by a dot appearing inside the arrow de-
picted in the square box on the upper side of the display.
For optimal resistance measurement, it is advised to perform the Auto calibra-
tion outside the joint prior to surgery; however the pump will perform the Auto
calibration in the joint if necessary.
For best results, follow these instructions prior to beginning the surgery:
• Connect the inflow tube to the instrument required for the surgical procedure
and all other connections. Close the outflow stopcock.
• Open the inflow stopcock completely.
• While keeping the instrument outside of the joint, hold the connected instru-
ment for the duration of the instrument detection (approx. 15 seconds) at
working height.
• Start the irrigation with the "Start" button. The device will first fill the tubing
with fluid.
• The pump detects when the tubing is filled. The Auto calibration starts auto-
matically once the pressure conditions are constant, which can take from a few
seconds (outside the joint) up to a minute (inside the joint).
• Then you should be able to notice three short cycles of irrigation.
• After approximately 15 seconds, the instrument detection is completed. A suc-
cessful Auto calibration is depicted by a dot appearing inside the arrow depict-
ed in the square box on the upper side of the display. Then the device is
performing in "best flow".
• Close the inflow stopcock. DO NOT press the "Start/Stop".
• Perform surgery.
CAUTION!
Do not stop the device after having performed Auto calibration by pressing the
Start/Stop button on the console. If the start/stop button is pressed, the Auto
calibration is lost and will automatically be performed again once irrigation is re-
activated. An Auto calibration performed inside the joint may not be successful.
In this case, the device will not depict the black dot in the square on the display.
Irrigation will not be performed with "best flow" but at "nominal flow". This may
lead to a slight loss of performance in regards to best flow settings but neverthe-
less enables arthroscopic procedures without additional risk to life or health of
the patient.
