Bendix 9 ABS Pressure Testing
(Applications: Jeep Cherokee & Wagoneer from 1989-91)
Bosch 3 Integral ABS Pressure Testing
Always refer to the outlined diagnostic procedure found in the vehicle's user manual for the specific
fault indicated. When instructed by ABS technicians' manual to perform a pressure check using on me
Bosch integral ABS system, it will be thru the bleeder valve on the side of me unit Through the use of
the 05 adapter the gauge set of the ABS & Brake Pressure Test Kit can be used for this testing.
(Applications: various Chrysler and Cadillac vehicles from 1987-92)
Procedure
1. After depressurizing me accumulator, remove the bleeder valve on the side of the Bosch ABS
unit.
2. Install the pressure gauge onto the 05 adapter that you installed into the side of the unit.
3. Install the 05 adapter into opening where you removed the bleeder valve.
4. Proceed with the pressure checks as instructed by the technicians ABS manual. After completing
the required pressure tests, again depressurize the system. Turn off the ignition with the key and
remove it from the switch. Pump the brake pedal 40 times to relieve pressure in the system.
5. Reinstall the bleeder valve and tighten. Check the brake fluid level and add the necessary
amount if needed.
6. Remove the gauge from the adapter and then remove the adapter from the bleeder valve
opening. Several other integral ABS systems and add-on systems (non-integral) ABS systems
call for specific pressure checks as part of the diagnostic process in the operation of these ABS
systems. If the ABS manual calls for a pressure check and mentions a specific OE tool, check to
see where the pressure is being taken. On many units there are bleeder valves or plugs with
bleeder valve threads screwed into the side of the master cylinders. Follow the correct procedure
to discharge any pressure on the unit Remove the bleeder valve or bleeder valve plug and
compare it to various adapters in the kit. The several cases you may install a bleeder valve
adapter and hook the ABS & Brake Pressure Gauge directly into the hole from which the bleeder
valve was removed. Great care has been taken to provide the technician with the most complete
set of adapters and instructions to cover most applications. This will enable you to obtain the
pressure readings.
Follow the OE procedure for the key cycling, pedal application and for the proper pressures that
should be shown. Because there are so many different systems on the market, and these systems
are constantly being upgraded and changed, there is no available resource for determining the correct
adapter for all existing systems. The adapters provided here will cover the majority of applications that
the technician will come across.
