on a 11mm Lanex static rope which complies with the EN
1891 Standard, at a regulated speed of between 0.5 m/s
and 2 m/s.
In an emergency, the descent device complying with the
EN341 class A Standard may also be used with other
static or dynamic ropes with a diameter of between 10
and 13 mm. In this case, the service provisions and fea-
tures may differ from those laid down in the Standard.
Important: This device has been designed for use with a
textile anchoring line only, in compliance with the EN
1891 or EN 892 Standards, together with:
- Securing points complying with the EN 795 standard.
- Karabiners with finger closing device, compliant with the
EN 362 and / or EN 12275 Standards.
- Harnesses compliant with the EN 361 and/or EN 12277
Standard.
- Safety equipment compliant with the EN 1498
Standard.
Beware: The descent device is not a fall prevention device.
During the device positioning phase, please check that:
- the flexible line anchoring point is placed above the user
and complies with the EN 795 standard.
- there is no floppy rope between the anchor point and
the user.
- there are no obstacles that could impede descent.
Rain and black ice may cause restriction or at least ren-
der the device's services less comfortable.
Important: In a working environment, this device should
never be used without a fall break system. For work at
height we recommend that you use the descent device
twinned with a second safety rope equipped with a devi-
ce compliant with the EN 12841 type A Standard.
6 - Using the device
The new dual security, panic proof descent device locks
on relaxation of the hand (in the event of loss of cons-
ciousness), slight pressure of the fingers enables des-
cent speed to be regained. The harder you press the slo-
wer it will go, up to standstill (Panic proof). It is particu-
larly suitable for working at height and for emergency
evacuations.
(Fig 1-2) Introduce the rope into the Tractel descent device.
(Fig 3) Open the catch and introduce the rope into the
first brake cog.
(Fig 4) Close the catch and introduce the rope into the
second brake cog.
(Fig 5) Close the flange on the Tractel descent device into
the karabiner secured at the waist. Check that the kara-
biner ferrule (compliant with the EN 362 Standard) is fully
tightened.
(Fig 6) To start the descent: load your body weight by
interspacing the Tractel descent device on the flexible
anchor line. Keep the rope floppy, pulling downwards in
order to avoid any initial jerk. Work on the catch to achie-
ve the required descent speed. If you press harder on the
catch the device will slow down until it stops altogether.
(Fig 7) If you have to hold the same position for a long
time, we advise you to build a blocking key as shown in
the illustration.
(Fig 8) Descent of equipment or people using the return
karabiner.
Beware: during a rescue operation, take all possible pre-
cautions to ensure efficiency, and wherever possible
ensure the safety of the rescued person by the use of a
second rope.
(Fig 9) Anchor point (A) – flexible securing line (B). Check
that the securing point for the line (A) is placed above the
user and has a resistance that complies with the EN 795
Standard.
Important: For a completely secure descent it is manda-
tory that you wear gloves.
7 - Pre and post usage check
Make sure that the equipment:
- Has not undergone any mechanical deformation.
- Shows no sign of cracks or wear.
- Has no worn textile areas.
- Complies with the usage you wish to use it for.
Also check that:
- The spiral lever works freely on the brake cog.
- The safety catch closes automatically once it has been
released.
8 - Product life
Attention: read point 2.2. carefully. Equipment lifespan is
calculated:
- For the mechanical part: 10,500 m of descent.
- For the rope: This should be replaced with new after 100
descents irrespective of length.
9 - Certification
This product has been certified by Qualified Bodies:
0426 ITALCERT, v.le Sarca 336, 20126 Milan, Italy -
0123 TUV Product Service GMBH, Ridlerstrasse 65,
