Breaking In

The proper care of your motorcycle during the first
kilometers of usage will considerably increase its
service life and improve its performance.
• During the first 1,000 km (600 miles), avoid full
throttle start and sudden acceleration.
• During this period, do not subject the engine to
excessive load and use the proper gear to prevent
unnecessary strain on the engine.
• Do not ride the motorcycle for long periods at
constant speed.
• Keep the engine from running at excessive low or
high speeds.
• During the first 1,000 km (600 miles), apply the
brakes smoothly. This will not only increase service
life, but also ensure their future effectiveness.
Avoid sudden braking.
These recommendations are not only for the breaking
in period, but at all times.
ATTENTION
Running the engine at excessive speed may cause
serious damage.

Riding

WARNING
• • • • • Review "Motorcycle Safety" (pages 7 to 12) before
you ride.
• • • • • Make sure the side stand is completely up before
operating the motorcycle. If the side stand is
down, it may interfere with motorcycle control
when turning to the left.
1. After engine warm up, the motorcycle is ready for
riding.
2. While the engine is idling, pull in the clutch lever
and depress the gearshift pedal to shift into 1st
(low) gear.
3. Slowly release the clutch lever and at the same time
increase engine speed gradually by opening the
throttle. Coordination of the throttle and clutch lever
operation will assure a smooth positive start.
4. When the motorcycle attains a moderate speed,
close the throttle, pull in the clutch lever and shift
into 2nd gear by raising the gearshift pedal.
