OPERATION
Pre-ride Inspection
WARNING
If the pre-ride inspection is not performed, severe
personal injury or motorcycle damage may result.
Inspect your motorcycle every day before riding. The
inspection procedures below will only take a few
minutes, and in the long run they can save time,
expense and possibly your life. If any adjustment is
necessary, refer to the appropriate section of this
manual.
1.
ENGINE OIL LEVEL – Add engine oil if required
(page 23). Check for leaks.
2.
FUEL LEVEL – Fill fuel tank when necessary
(page 22). Check for leaks.
3.
FRONT AND REAR BRAKES – Check operation
and the brake shoes for wear. Adjust the front and
rear brakes free play if necessary (pages 17 to
19, 58).
4.
TIRES – Check pressure, tread wear and tire
condition (page 24).
5.
DRIVE CHAIN – Check condition and slack
(page 49). Check the chain slider for wear (page
53). Adjust and lubricate if necessary.
6.
THROTTLE – Check for smooth opening and full
closing in all steering positions, proper cable
routing and throttle lever free play (page 48).
7.
CLUTCH – Check operation and adjust if
necessary (page 20).
8.
LIGHTS AND HORN – Check the headlight,
taillight, stoplight, turn signals, indicators and
horn for proper operation.
9.
ENGINE STOP SWITCH – Check for proper
operation (page 28).
10. SIDE STAND – Check operation and the rubber
pad for wear (page 54).
11. SPARK PLUG AND HIGH TENSION TERMINAL –
Check for looseness.
12. NUTS, BOLTS AND FASTENERS – Make sure the
front axle nut and bracket are firmly tightened.
Check all nuts, bolts and fasteners for looseness.
Tighten them, if necessary.
Correct any abnormality before you ride. Contact your
authorized Honda dealer for assistance if you cannot
correct the problem.
