Video CDs

Video CDs (VCDs or SVCDs – Super VCDs) contain film or image formats.
They are based on a different decoding format than DVDs, and in contrast
to DVDs may not necessarily be subdivided into titles/chapters, or have
their own menu.
Insert a VCD/SVCD. On the screen the following is displayed V C D with
the version, e. g. 1 . 1 or 2 . 0 and P B C or P B C O F F (see below).
– In PBC mode playing must be started with PLAY .
– Without PBC playing starts automatically.
The display in Play mode is built up as shown adjacent.
VCD 2.0 with Playback Control – PBC
Some VCDs of type 2.0 have a title/chapter structure, and offer the
possibility of playback control. With PBC (button SUBTITLE/MENU/PBC )
extended functions for navigation via title/chapter are available, such as
– Direct selection of title/chapter
– SKIP functions
Please note that the exact functions available depend on the VCD.
Identical functions for VCDs and DVDs
The following functions of Video-CDs are identical with those of DVDs:
PLAY , PAUSE , STEP (frame), STOP
Search functions – SKIP (assuming that the VCD has several titles, i. e.
tracks), STATION
Repeat functions – REPEAT
Define playing sequence – PROGRAM (assuming that the VCD has
several titles)
Direct selection with AUTO MEM/SEARCH
Set bookmarks – BOOKMARK
Enlarge image – ZOOM

Screen preview –
Assuming that the VCD is divided into sections, you can call these up with
DIGEST. The following menu appears:
AUDIO
Press the button AUDIOMENU/AUDIO L/R repeatedly, to select from the
following playing modes: M O N O R I G H T , M O N O L E F T , M I X - M O N O
and S T E R E O . This can be useful to select the language for discs with
multi-channel sound.
