Application instructions
Size determination (only by a trained
specialist)
• The orthosis is selected and fitted by a
specialist after measuring the patient. You
can refer to the size chart on the packag-
ing for the correct size depending on the
measured values.
• To determine the right size, you will need to
measure the pelvic circumference.
• You can determine the size of the thigh
support based on the thigh circumference
measured at the middle of the thigh. It is
also necessary to indicate the affected side
(left or right leg).
• To select the joint splint (short / long), you
will need the patient's height.
s = short < 1.70 m height
l = long > 1.70 m height
In specific cases, it is possible that a „long"
joint splint will fit better than a measured
size of „short" or the other way round.
Adjustment of CoxaTrain (only by a trained
specialist)
• First insert the hip cup with hinge
A
aligned according to the affected side into
the welded pocket provided on the pelvic
support for this purpose.
The Bauerfeind
B
logo „B" on the hip cup should be facing
outwards (away from the body)
.
1
• Fasten the blue gluteal pad
(which is
C
fastened on the right side by default) to the
Velcro tab provided on the affected side
(inner side of the pelvic support)
.
2
• Then fasten the oval trochanter cushion
horizontally onto the triangular Velcro
D
patches on the inner side of the hinge.
For targeted pressure relief of the greater
trochanter, the second, perforated oval
cushion
can be fastened at this point as
E
an alternative
.
3
• After this, fasten the trochanter pad
(
kidney-shaped, gray, white back)
F
onto the joint splint above the trochanter
cushion, keeping the hinge bent at a 90°
angle
4
;
the second trochanter pad included with
delivery (
gray, kidney-shaped, black
G
back) can be fastened below the pad
required to generate an enhanced massage
effect or to improve the action of the pad.
• Now put the pelvic support with the assem-
bled hinge on the patient. Make sure that
the upper edge of the pelvic support is level
with the upper edge of the iliac crest
• In case the hinge sticks out, you can
reshape this to follow the anatomical
progression of the thigh in the adjustable
area of the splint
using your hands or
6
the edge of the table up to 3×
.
7
• To complete the product, first take off the
support.
• Then pull the fabric hinge protection
over the lower end of the hinge
and
8
shorten using scissors if needed.
• After this, insert the lower end of the hinge
into the opening of the thigh knit
with the
I
locking button pressed, then lock it in one
of the six available positions (depending on
the length of the leg)
.
9
TIP: Mark the number so the patient can find
the right locking point after disassembly and
reassembly during cleaning.
• Position the sacroiliac joint pads
L
(SI joint pads) vertically along the Velcro
tabs so that the cut-out (hole) is situated at
the posterior superior iliac spine (SIPS).
• Depending on the indication / specification
of the physician, the optionally available
limiting pins
can be used to restrict
K
bending and stretching in the hip joint (60°,
75°, 90°)
.
10
• To do so, position the limiting pin(s) in the
corresponding holes (60°, 75°, 90°)
11
• Then snap the covering cap
onto the
J
hinge
.
12
• Check the fit of the shaped orthosis on the
patient and have the patient practice put-
ting on and taking off the orthopedic aid in
front of a mirror.
• If the SI joint pads
get in the way of the
L
pelvic support, you can unfasten them.
TIP: Make sure that the Velcro tabs do not
touch the knitted fabric. This prevents dam-
age to the material of the CoxaTrain.
Putting on the CoxaTrain (patient)
• Position the orthosis on the pelvis so that
the upper edge of the knit fabric reaches no
higher than the upper edge of the iliac crest
with the hip cup and joint splint
centrally on the side of the thigh
• Then slide your fingers into the finger pock-
if
ets provided on the fastening and steadily
F
pull the fastening forward
• Then press the left half of the fastening
against the abdomen and position the right
half of the fastening on top of the left half
so that it can be fastened to it. When fasten-
.
ing the two halves, remove your fingers
5
from the left-hand finger pocket first and
then from the right
.
3
• Then take hold of the two tensioning straps
and pull them forward, steadily and at the
same time, until the desired level of tension
(stabilization on the pelvis) is achieved
• Then fasten the two tensioning straps on
the large abdominal
fastening.
H
5
• Place the thigh knit
around the thigh
I
by pulling it without creases
the Velcro fastening so that it sits flat
Alternatively, you can sit down while putting
on the leg support for easier handling
Taking off the CoxaTrain (patient)
• Open the Velcro fastening on the thigh
knit
.
7
• Next, open the tensioning strap of the pelvic
support
and attach it loosely to the
B 5
Velcro tabs. Now you can open the fasten-
ing of the pelvic harness
3
the CoxaTrain firmly on the side with the hip
cup and hinge
.
8
TIP: For easier handling and to prevent dam-
age to the material of the CoxaTrain, always
fasten the opened Velcro fastenings directly
to the velour fabric of the orthosis.
.
Cleaning instructions (patient)
• First please note the side on which the
locking button is locked into the leg knit.
There are six available positions (depending
on the length of the leg)
.
9
When adjusting the orthosis, a mark should
be placed for better orientation.
• Remove the thigh knit from the joint splint
by pressing the locking button down and
pulling the thigh knit out of the joint splint
.
10a
• Please wash the orthosis, pads and cushion
by hand with a mild detergent at 30 °C.
• Wipe the hip cup and aluminum parts with
a soft cloth and a mild cleaning agent.
• Then leave the orthosis to air dry.
