DCN Discussion System

1. About this manual

This "Instructions for use" only describes the
basic installation and configuration needed to
set up and install a DCN discussion system
without PC operator control.
Due to its modular concept and its full range
of products, DCN systems can easily be
extended and adapted for use in larger multi-
national discussion/conference venues. Such
systems may include PC control with DCNs
top of the range contribution units that
provide even more advanced facilities such as
LCD screens, ID card readers and voting
facilities etc. Therefore due to its system
flexibility and your system needs it may be
necessary to refer to the "DCN Installation
and Operating Manual" (3922 988 4331x)
when extending and adapting systems.

DCN Discussion System

2. Introduction

The Philips DCN discussion system is a
sophisticated extendible digital conferencing
system meeting the requirements of today's
modern conference needs. The basic DCN
discussion system uses a subset of DCN
equipment for use in smaller discussion
systems where there is no need for voting
facilities or a PC operator. The system
includes a standard central control unit (LBB
3500/00) providing microphone management
facilities as well as power to the delegate and
chairman discussion units. A chairman will
preside over the discussion and control the
proceedings using a chairman discussion unit.
The unit has a microphone priority function to
overrule/mute or cancel all speaking delegates,
as well as cancelling all requests-to-speak. Each
participant is provided with a 'delegate'
discussion unit allowing the participants to
speak and listen to the floor speaker.
For multi-lingual discussions an interpretation
system can easily be added using interpreter
desks LBB 3520/00.
A public address system together with
recording facilities can also be included.

DCN discussion system includes:

Note: CCUs with stroke versions /10 and
/30 can also be used for DCN discussion
systems.
