Risk of fatal injury due to earthed solar generator.
A fault in the DC cabling can cause a short circuit or arcing. If there is an
insulation fault in the solar generator, touching the solar generator can
cause death. The risk of fatal injury is increased in an earthed solar
generator. Service engineers must be advised of the earthing so that they
can operate accordingly in the event of malfunction.
Use a DC disconnect switch for earthing.
|
Clearly mark earthed solar generators.
|
Risk of fatal injury due to residual current
If a high-impedance connection is made in an electricity grid between a
phase conductor and earth, a residual current will flow, which will not be
disconnected by an upstream fuse. Residual currents can cause fatal
injuries, fires and material damage.
Always use residual current protection devices (RCDs). Note the
|
following:
Specifications of the power supply company,
|
Specifications of the insurer or building authorities,
|
Standards and technical directives (e.g. DIN VDE 0100-410 (IEC
|
60364-4-41:2005)).
Lightning protection plan
Material damage due to lightning strike
A lightning strike in the vicinity of or directly to the photovoltaic system
may damage the system components.
Prepare a lightning protection concept for all system components
|
(solar generator, central inverter, system monitoring, etc.).
Put the lightning protection plan into action.
|
The risk of surge voltage events and lightning strikes will differ depending
on the location and composition of the photovoltaic system. Note the
following:
Risk assessment acc. to DIN EN 62305-2
|
Statutory and local regulations
|
Requirements of the insurer of the photovoltaic system
|
Each location and differing system topology (module types, rated voltage,
cable routing, etc.) places different demands on a lightning protection
plan. The manufacturer is not able to produce any universally applicable
specifications to guarantee total protection. Each photovoltaic system
must be evaluated in its own right. If you do not have any experience of
planning and implementing such systems, contact an expert for help.
