WARNING
Risk of explosion!
In hazardous areas, electrostatic discharge may cause a spark to ignite on the
antenna.
► Do not clean antenna in hazardous areas with a dry cloth. Use a damp cloth
for cleaning.
WARNING
Risk of explosion!
In hazardous areas, electrostatic discharge may cause a spark to ignite on the
housing and sensing head.
► Do not clean housing and sensing head in hazardous areas with a dry cloth.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
In gas explosion-hazard area, the gas detector can be serviced without
declassifying the area.
13.1
Cleaning the infrared measuring cell
Regular checks should be made to ensure that the openings on the weather
cap are freely accessible. Any foreign object (e.g., insects, cobweb, leaves,
snow) which could impede the free circulation of air must be removed as
follows:
1. Remove the weather cap. If necessary, also remove insect screen (figure
B 2).
2. Clean the cap on the in- and outside.
3. After cleaning is completed, refit the cap together with the insect screen on
the measuring cell (arrow on the cap must point upwards!) (figure D).
The optical transmission of the infrared sensor is continuously monitored. A
poor or blocked transmission is indicated by the device status. In this case,
inspect the windows and reflectors in the measuring cell (figure B 1) and clean if
necessary.
Proceed as follows to do this:

Instructions for use

Dräger Polytron
During and shortly after cleaning, gas alarms may occur as a result of the
sensitivity of the detector to alcohol. To prevent this, use PolySoft
®
(WirelessHART
simulation menu) to set the device to the "Out of service" error
status.
1. Remove the battery box.
2. For cleaning, use a soft cloth or a cotton swab and a lens cleaner based on
pure water and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or other alcohols.
3. Then rinse with pure water.
4. Dry off with a soft dry cloth.
5. Reinstall the battery box.
NOTICE
Use only the specified cleaning agent!
If no lens cleaner is available, diluted dishwashing detergent can also be used.
► After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with pure water. Remove all residual water
(drops).
In the case of device status Beam Block (light beam blocked) and
subsequent cleaning, it may take up to 10 minutes for the status message to
stop showing.
13.2
Bump test
A bump test is a quick test to check the sensitivity without transmitting the
measured value to the controller. The feature is available in PolySoft.
13.3
Testing the signal chain
To test the signal chain from the gas warning device to the controller, the gas
reading (PV), measured value status (PV_STATUS) and device status can be
simulated. The simulation mode is available in PolySoft.
13.4
LED test
The Dräger PolySoft configuration software can be used to perform an LED test
to verify the function of the LED display.
No errors or warnings should be active during the LED test.
