Physical properties of the gases or vapors to be measured and the
details of the particular application (e.g., proximity to possible leakage,
air movement/currents, expected dispersion of the gas or vapor cloud)
Future use of accessories and maintenance equipment
Vertical orientation of the gas detector (antenna pointing up or down)
Free gas or steam flow to the measuring cell
Sufficient radio signal for reliable measured value transmission
If not possible with the standard antenna, use remote antenna.
No direct solar radiation that leads to a temperature increase above the
specified limit values
Dräger recommends the Polytron 5/6/8xxx / x700/x720 sun and weather
protection (accessory).
Dräger recommends installing the gas detector so that the weather cap
is facing away from the prevailing wind direction, if possible.
Protect the antenna connector from dirt and corrosion. If no antenna is
installed, install the cover cap (delivery condition) and tighten hand-tight.
1.5
Electrical installation
Use of the battery pack:
Do not recharge the battery pack.
Do not incinerate, heat above 100 C, or expose battery packs to water.
Do not open the battery pack forcibly.
Dispose of the battery pack in accordance with national regulations.
For wired power supply in hazardous areas, observe the specified
operational parameters and use a suitable safety barrier (see "Technical
data", page 58). Otherwise, intrinsic safety is not guaranteed.
If the gas detector is operated without a safety barrier, it is no longer
approved for use in hazardous areas.
1.6
During operation
Check the functionality of the gas detector after the presence of dust
deposits, immersion in liquids, or contact with water jets.

1.7
Maintenance
Service the gas detector at regular intervals. The intervals and activities are
defined in the maintenance schedule by the person responsible for the gas
detection system.
Dräger recommends carrying out the following activities every 12 months:
Test the measuring accuracy and signal chain by applying test gas (see
"Proof test and adjustment", page 48).
Check the functioning of the LED display with a fault-free device using
the Dräger PolySoft configuration software.
Visually inspect the weather cap and the infrared measuring cell. Clean
them if necessary.
Observe valid national regulations regarding maintenance (e.g.,
EN 60079-29-2, EN 45544-4, T021/T023).
