CARE AND MAINTENANCE
CLEANING/REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG
See Figure 32.
NOTICE
Westinghouse OEM or compatible non-resistor-
type spark plug. Use of resistor-type spark plug can
result in rough idling, misfire, or may prevent the
engine from starting.
Make sure the spark is clean and properly gapped. To
clean or replace your spark plug:
l Turn the generator off and allow the engine to cool for
30 minutes.
l Place the generator on a level surface in a well-
ventilated area.
l Remove the spark plug boot by firmly pulling the spark
boot directly away from the engine.
l Clean the area around the spark plug.
l Remove the spark plug with the included spark plug
socket wrench.
NOTICE
move the spark plug laterally when removing the
spark plug.
l Inspect the spark plug. Replace if electrodes are
pitted, burned, or the insulator is cracked. Only use a
recommended replacement plug.
l Measure the spark plug electrode gap with a wire-type
feeler gauge. If necessary, correct the gap by carefully
bending the side electrode.
Spark plug gap: 0.024 - 0.032 in. (0.60 - 0.80 mm)
l Carefully install the spark plug finger tight, then tighten
as additional 3/8 to 1/2 turn with the spark plug wrench.
l Install the spark plug boot.
