TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MELT TANK (MOD. MET)

5.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TANK

The equipment is designed for melting and warming the fat phase that will be
subsequently introduced in cream's vessel by vacuum suction.
The melt tank consists of a vertical cylindrical body that has a welded torispherical
lower head and flat cover and is provided with a double jacket for product heating
through the passage of steam. For personnel protection and safety, it has an
external insulating sheet made of rock wool and a polished stainless-steel sheet,
welded to the body.
The tank has been designed to work at atmospheric pressure. The double jacket has
been designed to work at 3 kg/cm
BPVC).
The following components are located on the upper head of the tank:
 Anchor mixer
 Steam regulation valve
 Pressure gauge (in contact with double jacket)
 Safety valve (in contact with double jacket)
The following components are located on the lower head of the tank:
Butterfly valve for emptying

PT100 temperature sensor

The tank sits above the ground on 4 stainless-steel equidistant tubular legs with
wheels that allows its mobility.
The different parts of the tank are made in AISI 316L stainless steel for components
that are in contact with product and AISI 304 stainless steel for the rest.
The tank surfaces that will come in contact with the product have been polished to
a mirror-like finish with a roughness Ra < 0.8μm, whereas the other surfaces have
been polished to a 180-grain satin finish as per DIN 69100 with a roughness Ra <
1.2μm.
The gaskets that will come in contact with the product are made of EPDM, VITON or
silicone suitable for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
