Riving Knife (Splitter)
(Fig. 1, Fig. 10, Fig. 55, Fig. 56)
The Riving Knife is the central element of the Bosch
blade guarding Smart Guard System 11, which
serves as the attachment point for both the Barrier
Guard Assembly 26 and the Anti-Kickback Device
27.
If the Barrier Guard Assembly 26 and the Anti-Kick-
back Device 27 are removed, the Riving Knife 25
maintains its functionality as material splitter. It
can be quickly adjusted to any of three positions,
depending on the requirement of the application:
through cut, non-through cut, and dado. Because
of this adjustability, the Riving Knife 25 can be ap-
propriately positioned for all cutting applications.
(See "Adjusting the Riving Knife" on page 35.)
The Riving Knife (splitter) 25 can be easily adjusted
to one of three heights by removing the Table In-
sert 12, raising the Blade 31 to its full height and
releasing the Riving Knife Release Lever 40 at the
base of the Riving Knife 25. The Riving Knife 25
should be locked in its through cut (highest) posi-
tion for use with the Main Barrier Guard Assembly
26 and Anti-Kickback Device 27. It can be adjusted
to its non-through cut (middle) position for use as
a material splitter without the Main Barrier Guard
Assembly 26 and Anti-Kickback Device 27. In the
event that the Riving Knife 25 cannot be used for a
specific cut or for use with a dado blade, it can be
adjusted to its dado (lowest) position, placing it
1" (25.4mm) above the Table 13 surface when the
Blade 31 is at its full height.

Barrier Guard Assembly
(Fig. 55)
The Barrier Guard Assembly 26 is comprised of a
pair of plastic barriers attached to the plastic up-
per barrier guard. The side barriers (one to the left
of the Blade 31 and one to the right) operate in-
dependently of one another, maintaining maximum
Blade coverage during cutting operations. The
Barrier Guard Assembly 26 incorporates a quick-
connect attachment point and can be attached or
removed from the Smart Guard System 11 indepen-
dent of the the Anti-Kickback Device 27 and Riving
Knife 25.
The Barrier Guard Assembly 26 can be quickly at-
tached and detached through the use of the quick
release Barrier Guard Assembly Release Lever 35.
The guard is attached by seating the crossbar into
the top of the Riving Knife (Splitter) 25 and engag-
ing the Release Lever 35. Following this process in
reverse, the Barrier Guard Assembly 26 can be eas-
ily removed for special operations such as dados or
rabbets.
NOTE: To best secure the Barrier Guard Assembly
26 for relocation, adjust the Blade 31 to its lowest
position. This keeps the Guard 26 tight to the Ta-
ble 13 surface and prevents damage related to the
Guard 26 swinging during relocation. If transport-
ing over a longer distance on/off the job, place the
Guard 26 in its below-table storage position. (See
"Barrier Guard Assembly Storage" on page 26).
