3.8 SEED COVERING HARROW
The drilling-maschine is equipped with a seed-cover harrow
made of a load bearing bar, on which there are more parallely
hinged tooth-holder segments. The seed-covering harrow is
actuated by a hydraulic system.
IMPORTANT! On the trailed versions, the system is shared with
that of the rear trolley, so they are actuated at the same time
by the same tractor distributor. A valve at the back of the
machine allows the harrow circuit to be opened and closed
according to requirements (Fig. 30).
To adjust the system, refer to chapter 3.10 ADJUSTING THE
HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS.
The teeth are elastic with a bent profile to allow the stubles to
flow free in the earth. The end parts of the teeth are folded at
apposite angles to help cover the furrow with the earth that is
raised. The inclination of the bar can be slightly varied according
to the condition of the soil and the quantity of stubbles, loosening
the brackets of the main bar (Fig. 31).
To arrange the seed-covering harrow in its working position, follow
the instructions given below:
1) Raise the planter from the ground by lowering the rear trolley
completely.
2) Release the securing bolts, put them in the place provided (1
Fig. 32) and lower the clamp along the cylinder (2 Fig. 32).
3) Actuate the hydraulic system and bring the harrow arms to
the end of their travel (A Fig. 33).
4) Lower the machine making it move forwards slightly at the
same time.
5) Make sure the clamp is positioned properly along the cylinder
rod (B Fig. 33).
The last operation allows the seed-covering harrow to be partially
raised (C Fig. 33) and then positioned correctly when the planter
is lowered again, during the turning operations in the headlands
or any other manoeuvre with the machine lifted off the ground.
When using the rear seed-covering harrow in the working position,
if its circuit is switched off with the valve (Fig. 30), the planter must
be raised fully from the ground during manoeuvres.
With the harrow lowered and the circuit closed by the valve
(Fig. 30), the planter must be raised fully from the ground during
manoeuvres.
