3.3 PREPARATIONS FOR SEED DISTRIBUTION
To obtain the correct rate of seed distribution per hectare (Kg/Ha)
the distributing parts must be suitably adjusted: the gearbox, the
feeler pins and the rollers.
A rough guide can be obtained from the seed planting table (see
sowing test chapter 3.3.7).
The values that you will need for this are: planting unit model,
number of rows, type of seed (wheat, barley, etc.) and the quantity
in kg to be distributed per hectare.
3.3.1 GEARBOX (SEED)
The gearbox is positioned on the right side of the machine and
its motion is given by the driving wheels. The speed of the seed
distributing units can be changed from the gearbox by moving
the adjustment lever that is calibrated continuously on a scale
from 0 to 55 (Fig. 11).
To set or change the gearbox pointer, loosen the knob, put the
lever at the bottom of the scale «55», then put it on «0» (zero) and
then position it on the value found. Lock it in position by tightening
the knob.
3.3.2 ADJUSTMENT OF THE BOTTON PLATE
The botton plate adjustment lever (Fig. 12) is positioned on the
right side of the machine and works on a scale that is graduated
from 1 to 7 positions. This lever must be positioned according to
the number given in the seed planting table for the type of seed
used. Position the lever of the botton plate (to the right of the
hopper) on the 7-position pointer (Fig. 12):
N° 1, for small seeds (rape, etc);
N° 3, for medium seeds (wheat, barley, etc.);
N° 7, for large seeds (peas, soybean, etc.).
When the botton plate (B Fig. 13) are correctly positioned they
ensure smooth and steady distribution of the seeds.
If the lever is positioned beyond the maximum opening (>7),
the seeds will be discharge from the hopper.
To obtain optimum seed distribution check the adjustment of the
botton plate at regular intervals (B):
1) position the lever (Fig. 12) on reference «0»;
2) the lever (Fig. 14) in position «A»;
3) using screw (D), adjust the distance between the feeler pin
and the distributing roller to between 0.5 and 1 mm (E Fig.
13).
3.3.3 ADJUSTMENT OF DOSING ROLLERS
Before beginning seed planting, choose the most suitable
distributing roller (Fig. 14) for the type of seed.
ATTENTION
The dosing rollers must always be selected with the hopper
and the distribution boxes empty (Fig. 14).
The machine can be used with rollers for the distribution of small,
medium and large seeds. Select the type of distributing roller to
use according to the information given in ADJUSTMENT TABLE
OF THE SEEDER (page 37). Selection of the roller for small
seeds is made by moving the lever to position (A Fig. 14). In
position (B Fig. 14) the roller is selected for medium/large seeds.
3.3.4 ADJUSTMENT OF SEED GATES
The seed gates for (C Fig. 13) closing off the seed flow from the
hopper have two positions:
1) closed gate: seed flow completely closed and therefore the
seeds do not reach the distributing roller.
2) open gate: seed flow completely open.
