water run over the top of the glove and enter the hand mechanism. If water enters the inside of the hand for
any reason, please contact your prosthetist immediately to avoid further damage.
Hand Switch (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3)
The System Electric Hand has an inconspicuous on/off switch inside the inner hand.
Figure 2: Hand switch position "on", the System Electric Hand is switched on.
Figure 3: Hand switch position "off", the System Electric Hand is switched off.
When should I use the hand switch?
When you'd like to maintain a certain hand position for a period of time, such as while holding silverware
or while writing.
Turning the hand off prevents unintentional opening of the hand due to accidental muscle tension or electrical
interference. It also extends the operating time of the battery in your prosthesis.
The hand switch can be pressed easily with the other hand, or more subtly on an armrest or against your leg.
Quick-Disconnect Wrist (Fig. 4)
If your System Electric Hand is supplied with a quick-disconnect wrist (allowing passive pronation and supi-
nation), you can rotate it to a better position by turning the hand. This makes many objects easier to grasp.
You can also easily separate the System Electric Hand from the socket (to replace it with a System Electric
Greifer) by rotating the hand in either direction (approx. 360°) until you feel slight resistance (Fig. 4). Once
you overcome the resistance, the System Electric Hand will disconnect from the wrist.
Replacing the Terminal Device
Insert the quick-disconnect wrist into the lamination ring, press it in firmly and turn the System Electric Hand
or Electric Greifer slightly to the right or left. The pressure activates the locking mechanism and anchors the
Electric Hand or Electric Greifer into the lamination ring.
Make sure the Electric Hand or Electric Greifer is properly attached before picking anything up.

Rechargeable Batteries

Only a fully charged Ottobock battery should be used to operate the System Electric Hand. Always keep a
charged, back-up Ottobock battery available as a replacement.
An intelligent „battery manager" alerts you to low voltage conditions: The hand will become slower and the
grip force will decrease. Finally, when there is very little battery capacity remaining, the hand will switch off
automatically to protect the battery against harmful total discharge.
Ottobock recommends that you charge or replace the battery as soon as you notice that the battery capa-
city is decreasing. Simply push the locking lever away from the battery, remove the depleted battery and
replace it with a new one. When re-inserting a battery, the locking lever automatically snaps in to secure it.
We recommend operating the System Electric Hand with the 757B20/757B21 EnergyPack, in order to be
able to take advantage of the Hand's full capacity over an extended period of time. For detailed instructions
on how to handle the batteries, please refer to the instructions for use enclosed with the batteries.
To recharge the batteries, use only the Ottobock Battery Chargers mentioned in the instructions for use.
