temperature is excessive. The machine is ON but does
not deliver current until a normal temperature is
reached. Once this happens the re-start is automatic.
- Mains over/undervoltage protection: when mains
voltage is either too high or too low the machine is
blocked.
- Short circuit protection: in case there is a short-
circuit lasting more than 1.5 sec. (electrode sticking),
the machine stops. The re-start is automatic.
5- Function selector: used to set the machine dynamics:
1- TIG position, for TIG welding with scratch strike,
gives maximum stability to arc current.
2- HARD position, to obtain welding dynamics suited to
hard electrodes (basic, aluminium etc...), gives
maximum flowability.
3- SOFT position, for welding with "soft" electrodes (rutile,
stainless steel, etc.), gives maximum flowability and
stability to arc current.
TECHNICAL DAT A
Technical data relative to the performance of the machine
may be found on a plate (back panel) with the following
symbols, whose meaning is explained below.
1- EUROPEAN Norm of reference, for safety and
construction of arc welding machines.
2- Symbol for internal machine structure: inverter
transformer -rectifier.
3- Symbol for welding procedure provided: manual arc
welding with covered electrode.
4- Symbol S: indicates that welding operations may be
carried out in environments with heightened risk of
electric shock (e.g. very close to large metallic volumes).
5- Symbol for power supply line: monophase alternating
voltage.
6- Protection degree: IP 23. Protected against solid foreign
bodies of diam.≥12.5mm (e.g. fingers) and against
vertical fall of water drops with inclination up to 60° from
the vertical.
7 -Performance of welding circuit:
- U : maximum peak no-load voltage (welding circuit
0
open).
- I /U :current and corresponding normalised voltage [U2
2
2
= (20+0.04 I2) V] that the machine can deliver during
welding.
- X: Duty cycle: indicates the time for which the machine
can deliver the corresponding current (same column).
Expressed in %,on the basis of a 10min cycle (e.g. 60% =
6 minutes work, 4 minutes wait; and so on).
- A/V-A/V: Indicates the welding current adjustment
range (minimum - maximum) at the corresponding arc
voltage.
8- Technical specifications for power supply line:
- U : Alternating voltage and power supply frequency of
1
machine (limit allowed ±15%):
- I : maximum current consumed by the line.
1
- I :maximum effective current consumed
1eff
9-
Value of delayed action fuses to be used to
protect the power line.
- Symbols referring to safety standards
10- Manufacturer's serial number. Machine identification
(indispensable for technical assistance, requesting
spare parts, discovering product origin).
Note: The plate example given shows the meaning of the
symbols and figures; the exact rating values for the
Fig. D
machine in your possession should be read directly on
the rating plate of the machine it self.
EARTH OF WELDING MACHINE (Table 1)
WARNING: none of the welding machines described in this
manual is equipped with a lifting device.
INSTALLATION
SITE
Locate the machine in an area where openings for cooling
air are not obstructed (forced circulation with fan); check that
conductive dusts, corrosive vapours, humidity etc., will not
enter machine.

CONNECTION TO MAINS

- Before making any electrical connection check that the
technical data (on machine's back panel) corresponds to
the voltage and frequency of the mains at the installation
site.
PLUG:
- Model 150 is normally equipped with mains cable with 2
pin E.E.C. standard plug + earth protection (PE) 16A/250V.
It can therefore be connected to a corresponding socket
which must have a protection contact connected to the PE
conductor of the mains. With models 170 and 200 it is
necessary to connect the terminals of the mains cable to a
standardized 2P plug + (PE) with capacity of 20 ÷ 25A.
PA Y THE UTMOST ATTENTION that the yellow/green
conductor of the cable is correctly connected to the
terminal (PE) of the plug.
- The mains must be protected with delayed fuses or an
automatic differential switch, for the correct dimensions of
the mains (power/current fuse capacity), refer to data on
machine's identification plate.
WARNING
Failure to observe the above rules will make ineffective
the safety system installed by the manufacturer (Class
1) with resulting risks for persons (eg. electric shock)
and objects (eg. Fires).
CONNECTION OF THE WELDING CABLES
ALL CONNECTIONS TO THE WELDING CIRCUIT MUST
BE CARRIED OUT WITH THE MACHINE STRICTL Y
ISOLATED FROM THE MAINS.
- Welding cable - electrode holder: this is normally
connected to the positive pole (+), (see paragraph
'welding'').
- Return cable - work: this is normally connected to the
negative pole (-) the work clamp, at the opposite end, must
be connected to the work piece or a metallic work bench,
AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE JOINT TO BE MADE.
WARNING:
- Connecting cables must be turned fully into the quick plugs
to ensure a good electrical contact, loose connections will
cause overheating, rapid deterioration and loss in
efficiency.
- Avoid using welding cables of length over 10m.
- Avoid using metal structures which are not part of the
workpiece to substitute the return cable of the welding
current: this could jeopardise safety and result in poor
welding.
WELDING
- Most stick electrodes are connected to the positive pole,
although certain types must be connected to the negative
