Hip-med
Flexion abduction splint
This product requires qualified and individual adaptation to
the patient by specialist staff.
Purpose
The Hip-med
is an orthosis designed to correct the posi-
®
tion of the femoral head in the hip socket by spreading the
thighs. The orthosis is only to be used to treat the hips and
is intended exclusively for young children.
Description
The Hip-med
orthosis consists of an adjustable strap sys-
®
tem, an infinitely variable abduction splint and the appro-
priate thigh shells. The strap system secures the flexion of
the hip joints and the abduction splint prevents the adduc-
tion and secures the specified abduction. Hip-med
lises the legs in a 90° to 100° physiologically natural flexion
and in an abduction of approx. 50°. Thus the splint prevents
every form of stretching and abduction movements in the
hip joints which may cause dislocation. It prevents the
thighs from sinking into the Lorenz-position. The orthosis
deliberately allows evasive movements into further flexion
and rotation. The flexion-abduction splints can be worn
directly against the body or over clothing.
Indications
Hip dysplasia, endangered hip dislocation, repositioned hip.
Contraindications
Non repositioned hips.
Side effects
None reported when applied and worn as intended.
