Wheel Removal

(Refer to the Safety Precautions on page 43.)
Front Wheel Removal
1. Raise the front wheel off the ground by placing a
support block under the engine.
2. Remove the speedometer cable set screw (1) and
disconnect the speedometer cable (2).
3. Loosen the axle holder nuts (3).
4. Unscrew the front axle shaft (4). Remove the wheel.
Do not depress the brake lever when the wheel is off
the motorcycle. The caliper piston will be forced out of
the cylinder with subsequent loss of brake fluid. If this
occurs, servicing of the brake system will be
necessary. See your Honda dealer for this service.

Installation Notes
• Reverse the removal procedure.
• Insert the front axle shaft through the wheel hub and
left fork leg.
Make sure that the tang (5) on the speedometer
gearbox is located behind the tang (6) on the right
fork leg.
• Tighten the front axle shaft to the specified torque.
Front axle shaft torque:
59 N·m (6.0 kgf·m, 43 lbf·ft)
• Tighten the upper axle holder nuts to the specified
torque first, then tighten the lower axle holder nuts
to same torque.
Axle holder nut torque:
12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 9 lbf·ft)
• After installing the wheel, apply the brake several
times and then check if the wheel rotates freely.
Recheck the wheel if the brake drags or if the wheel
does not rotate freely.
