ELECTRICAL hazard
When using the product in swimming pools or oth-
er accessible pools, there is a risk of electrocution.
note the following information:
• Use is strictly forbidden if there are people in the
pool!
• If there are no people in the pool, protective mea-
sures must be taken according to DIN VDE 0100-
702.46
(or the appropriate national regulations).
The product is intended for pumping waste water.
Therefore, pumping drinking water is strictly pro-
hibited!
Proper use also includes observation of this manual. Any other use
is regarded as improper.
4.1.1. Notes on compliance with DIN EN 12050-1
Size DN 50
The size DN 50 (V05) units only meet the requirements of the
EN 12050-1 standard.
Size DN 65
The size DN 65 (V06) units have a DN65/80 combination flange.
To fulfill the requirements of standard DIN EN 12050-1, DN 80
piping must be fitted on the discharge side. The DN 65 bolt circle
is therefore sealed at the factory with rivets.
When using the unit for applications covered by DIN EN 12050-1,
the rivets must not be removed.
If the rivets are removed, the unit no longer fulfills the require-
ments of DIN EN 12050-1 but just the requirement of EN 12050-
1 instead.
Size DN 80 and larger
Units from size DN 80 (V08, etc.) upwards meet the requirements
of the DIN EN 12050-1 standard.
4.2.
Construction
The Salmson-Rocsan units... are floodable submersible waste
water motor pumps, which can be operated vertically as both
stationary and portable wet installations.

4.2.1. Hydraulics
The hydraulic housing and impeller are made of cast iron. The dis-
charge side connection is designed as a horizontal flange connec-
tion. Various types of impeller are used:

Discharge port
• free-flow impellers
• single-channel impellers
• multiple-channel impellers
The product is not self-priming, in other words, the
pumped fluid must flow in either automatically or
with an upstream pressure device.
4.2.2. Motor
The motor housing is manufactured in gray cast iron.
In the AC or three-phase current version, dry run motors are used
as the motors. The motor is cooled by the fluid around it. The
waste heat is directly transferred via the motor housing to the
pumped liquid. Therefore, these units must always be submerged
for continuous operation. The units can be used in intervals when
the motor is either submerged or emerged.
When the motor is emerged, continuous operation
is only possible with reduced performance. note the
information about this in the type code.
With AC motors, the operating capacitor is integrated in an exter-
nal capacitor switching device in the connection cable.
Furthermore, the motors are equipped with the following moni-
toring devices:
• Seal integrity monitor for motor chamber:
The leak monitor reports water penetration in the motor
chamber.
• Thermal motor monitor:
The thermal motor monitor protects the motor winding
from overheating. Bi-metal sensors are used for this as
standard. As an option, the motors can be fitted with
PTC sensors.
The motor can also be fitted with an external leak electrode to
monitor the oil separation chamber. It reports water penetrating
the oil separation chamber through the mechanical shaft seal on
the fluid side.
The connection cable is 10 m long, watertight along its length and
available in the following versions:
• cable with plug
• free cable end
4.2.3. Sealing
Sealing to the pumped liquid and to the motor compartment is
made by two mechanical shaft seals. The oil separation chamber
between the mechanical shaft seals is filled with medicinal white
oil.
The white oil is poured in when the pump is assembled.
4.3.
Explosion protection in accordance with ATEX
The motors are certified for use in atmospheres at risk of explo-
sion in accordance with EC directive 94/09/EC, which requires
device group II, category 2.
The motors can be used in both zone 1 and zone 2.
These motors may not be used in zone 0!
Non-electrical devices (e.g. hydraulics) also comply with EC direc-
tive 94/09/EC.
