3.2.4 Screen organization
The display unit (screen) has the following fields:
1
Status line for representation or display of:
1
Field for the engine type to be tested (number of cylinders, engine
type, ignition system, TDC sensor system)
2
Field for the set functions such as cylinder short-circuit, cylinder
number, designation of ignition circuit and memory of measured
value
3
Field for indication of rpm origin
=
TDC sensor (only engine, multi-, injection and exhaust test)
=
1st cylinder with trigger clamp-on pickup
=
primary side of ignition coil with green flip switch
B
=
secondary side of ignition coil with secondary sensor (only
in oscilloscope operation)
D
=
Pulse from diesel adapter (special accessory)
4
Field for information and warnings (highlighted)
5
Field for display of selected test program
Digital screen for oscillogram with information as to the mode of
operation (switch-selectable magnified representation of the
oscilloscope image together with the associated rpm during engine-
synchronous triggering). The small „clock" at the top right beside the
oscilloscope image shows the mode of operation of the oscilloscope.
Life mode:
The hand of the small clock turns clockwise. A new image is displayed
each time the hand moves.
Memory mode:
The hand of the clock is stopped. If individual stored images are
selected (see Sections 4.5.2 and 5.4) the hand turns backward or
forward.
Pause:
No hand in the clock. The oscilloscope is not ready or no oscillogram
is stored. This mode of operation changes to life mode after a short time
(max. 5 to 15 seconds).
Standby mode: (special function during manual triggering)
The hand of the clock moves forward one segment as soon as an input
signal which can be triggered is present (see Section 5.2.1).

Display of measured values (switch-selectable magnified representation
of the oscilloscope image together with the associated rpm during
engine-synchronous triggering)
Softkey or function key line (designations for multi-function keys). The
selected function is highlighted.
3.2.5 Control elements
F1
1. Short-circuiting the ignition; starting of the engine is prevented
(this key function is only activated at rpm = 0 = engine is not running).
2. Storage of the measured values (the toggle switch in the stroboscope
has the same function)
- during the engine, multi-, injection and exhaust test:
Max. 8 pairs of measured values can be stored.
- during oscilloscope operation (except during resolution
representation):
Activation of the picture memory „forward". The following (max. 32)
oscilloscope pictures are stored.
3. Reading out the memory of measured values:
- during the engine, multi-, injection and exhaust test:
It is possible to read out the stored pairs of measured values.
- during oscilloscope operation (picture memory „backward") except
during resolution representation:
The picture memory is frozen (stored) as are the last (max. 32)
displayed oscilloscope pictures.
4. Actuation of record printer:
- Pressing the key longer than 2 seconds results in a page advance
(next page in test record)
- Pressing the key in the basic picture briefly (< 2 seconds) results
in printout of the company address.
- Pressing the key in the measuring program briefly (< 2 seconds)
results in printout of the measured values or the oscilloscope
picture.
During the data transmission to the record printer the MOT takes
no further measurements. Printer symbol appears in status line 1,
column 5 (top right).
5. Information key: This key is used to view information about the
corresponding softkeys (F1 to F6) and the measurement.
6. Return key: Every time this key is pressed a branch is made one
program step backward towards the basic display.
7. Changeover switch for application: measuring program/oscilloscope
8. 6 multi-function keys (softkeys F1 to F6): Each of these keys has a
different function depending on the program step.
