Assembling the guard (simple joints)
50.
Clean and grease the retainer and its groove in the yoke. Assemble the retainer in its groove with the
three tabs properly positioned.
51.
Assemble the half guard on the PTO drive shaft, lining up the holes on the cone with three retainer
tabs and matching up the inner key of the cone with the cut of the retainer.
52.
Push forcefully causing the guard to couple, verify the coupling by pulling on the guard as if to remove
it; make sure that the three retainer tabs are perfectly positioned inside their grooves.
Disassembling the guard (constant velocity joints)
53.
Remove the screws.
54.
Disassemble the outer and the inner cone.
55.
Open the retainer and extract it from its groove.
Assembling the guard (constant velocity joints)
56.
Clean and grease the retainer and its groove in the yoke and reassemble it so that the logo is facing
outwards.
57.
Assemble the inner cone on the retainer by matching up the connection; then assemble the outer
cone.
58.
Tighten the screws.
Shortening the PTO drive shaft
PTO drive shaft tubes that have undergone speci c treatment cannot be shortened. Should grease
points or anti-vibration bushing be present you are advised not to shorten the tubes.
59.
Disassemble the two half-shafts and the two half-guards.
60.
Make sure the reduced length complies with the minimum overlap values established in paragraph E
"PTO drive shaft correct use".
61.
Shorten the PTO drive shaft tubes, remove any shavings, carefully deburr and clean the tube ends.
62.
Shorten the guard tubes by the same length as the PTO drive shaft tubes, making sure they do not
have any burrs or shavings.
Re-assemble the PTO drive shaft and make sure it is working properly prior to the installation.

Troubleshooting

63.
Deformation of yokes: Avoid overloads, torque peaks and engagements under load. Check
the e ciency of the torque limiter if present.
64.
Damage to the yokes: Reduce the working angle. Disengage the drive during manouvres
where the angles of the joints exceed 45°.
65.
Breakage of the cross arms: Avoid overloads and engagement of the power take-o
under load. Check the e ciency of the torque limiter if present.
66.
Deformation of telescopic elements: Avoid overloads and engagement of the power
take-o under load. Check the e ciency of the torque limiter if present. Make sure the PTO drive shaft
does not come in contact with parts of the tractor or of the machine during the manouvres. Verify the
minimum overlap of the telescopic pro les (See chapter "Working length and overlap").
67.
Premature wear of the telescopic elements: Check the minimum overlap of the
telescopic pro les and the proper greasing conditions.
