To demonstrate or practice using the HS1 defibrillator to treat an adult victim of
sudden cardiac arrest, use the M5073A Adult Training Pads cartridge. Use the
M5074A Infant/Child Training Pads cartridge to demonstrate or practice using
the HS1 defibrillator on an infant or a child less than eight years old or weighing
less than 55 pounds (25 kg).
When the cartridge is installed, the HS1 defibrillator recognizes whether it is an
Adult or Infant/Child Training Pads cartridge. Depending on which cartridge is
used, the defibrillator's voice instructions – including coaching in performing
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) – will be appropriate for treating an adult
or a child victim.
NOTE: Before using the HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator, the user should read
all instructions provided with the defibrillator, including information about
when the defibrillator should and should not be used. Some models may also
come with a training videotape. Be sure to watch the video before using the
defibrillator. It is recommended that anyone who may use the HeartStart
Defibrillator receive CPR/defibrillator training or other physician-authorized
training.
NOTE: The HeartStart Training Pads cartridges cannot delivery energy and
therefore cannot be used for patient treatment. If the HS1 defibrillator is
needed for patient treatment during a training session, replace the training
pads cartridge with a HeartStart Adult (M5071A)or Infant/Child (M5072A)
SMART Pads cartridge. Do not store the training pads cartridge with the
defibrillator.
NOTE: It is recommended that the training pads be applied only to the pads
placement guide or a properly equipped training manikin, not to people.
NOTE: Using the training pads requires power from the HS1 defibrillator
battery. The battery supports 10 hours of use in the training mode, after
which the battery must be replaced.
USING THE TRAINING PADS SCENARIOS
There are eight training scenarios available when using the training pads
cartridges. They are described in the following table.
