As soon as the training pads cartridge is installed, the defibrillator automatically
turns on and verbally identifies the cartridge as either "Adult Training Pads" or
"Infant/Child Training Pads," then announces "Training." The blue i-button on the
defibrillator starts flashing. As a safety precaution, the defibrillator will instruct
you to remove the training cartridge and insert a pads cartridge in case of an
emergency. It will then invite you to press the flashing blue button to choose a
training scenario.
NOTE: If you do not pull the handle or press the blue i-button within 30
seconds after installing the training pads cartridge, the defibrillator will go to
standby training mode and the green Ready light will blink.
TO SELECT A TRAINING SCENARIO
The default training scenario is number 1. After installing the training pads
cartridge, simply pull the cartridge handle or press the On/Off button to use this
scenario. The defibrillator will not announce the scenario number.
To select a different scenario, press the flashing blue i-button to scroll through
the eight scenarios in sequence. The defibrillator announces each scenario by
number as you press the button. When you reach the scenario number you
want, press and hold the On/Off button until the defibrillator turns off, or wait
for 10 seconds and it will automatically go into standby training mode.
As long as the battery and training cartridge are not removed, you can delay the
training session using the selected scenario for up to one hour. After one hour,
the blue i-button will start blinking, and the defibrillator will start chirping to
alert the user to either continue the training use or remove the training pads
cartridge and install a HeartStart SMART Pads cartridge.
TO RUN A TRAINING SCENARIO
To run the selected training
scenario, treat the training pads
exactly as you would the SMART
pads, using the Adult or
Infant/Child Pads Placement
Guide provided (shown at right)
or a CPR training manikin with an
External Manikin Adapter
M5089A to simulate the patient. (Illustrated instructions for applying the
manikin adapter to a training manikin are provided with the Adapter.) Most
users will not need the adapter.
