OPERATION AND FUNCTION
• Connected load: 24 V (DC), 4 VA
NOTE
No external voltage may be applied!
6.4.14. Field bus connection "ModBus RTU" (Fig. 2)
A RS485 interface is available for connecting a
building management system via Modbus RTU.
Insert the cables laid by the customer through the
threaded cable connections and secure them.
Connect the wires to the terminal strip according
to the connection diagram.
NOTICE
• No external voltage may be applied!
• To be able to use the function, the values must
be set in menu 2.01 to 2.05.
• If the switchgear is at the end of the ModBus
cable, the switchgear must be terminated. Plug
jumper "J2" (Fig. 2, item 11).
• If the ModBus requires polarisation, jumpers
"J3" and "J4" (Fig. 2, item 11) must be plugged.

7. Operation and function

This section contains all information on how the
switchgear functions as well as information on
the menu structure.
POTENTIALLY FATAL DANGER due to electrical
voltage!
When performing work on the uncovered
switchgear, there is a risk of fatal electric
shocks occurring. All work on individual
components must be performed by a qualified
electrician.
NOTE
Following a power supply interruption, the
switchgear will automatically start up in the last
operating mode set!

7.1. Operating principle

In automatic mode, the connected pump(s) are
actuated depending on the fill levels defined.
Measurement of the individual fill levels can be
performed via a float switch, a level sensor or a
dynamic pressure bell (only in version "IPS").
Pump 1 is switched on when the first switching
point is reached. When the second activation
point is reached, pump 2 is cut-in after the set
activation delay time has elapsed. A visual indica-
tor appears on the LC display and the green LED
lights up while the pump(s) is/are in operation. On
reaching the deactivation point, both pumps are
switched off after expiration of the set switch-off
delays. To optimise pump running times, general
pump cycling is carried out every time the pump
is switched off.
Installation and operating instructions Salmson-Control EC-L
In case of one pump malfunctioning, automatic
changeover to a fully-functional pump takes
place. An optical alarm signal is output. Addition-
ally, an acoustic alarm signal can be output via
the internal buzzer. Furthermore, the collective
fault signal (SSM) as well as the individual fault
contact (ESM) of the affected pump are active in
the event of a fault.
If dry run or high water levels are reached, forced
deactivation or activation of all available pumps
takes place and an optical alarm message is out-
put. Additionally, an acoustic alarm signal can be
output via the internal buzzer. Furthermore, the
collective fault signal (SSM) is active.

7.2. Operating modes

The switchgear can distinguish between the
following two operating modes:
• Drain
• Fill
NOTE
To change the operating mode, all pumps must
be deactivated. For this, set the value "OFF" in
menu 3.01.
7.2.1. "Drain" operating mode
The reservoir or pump chamber is drained. The
connected pumps are activated when the level
rises and switched off when the level falls. This
control is mainly used for water drainage.
Level measurement with float switch
Fig. 6: Illustration of the switching points with a float switch in the
"Drain" operating mode using the example of 2 pumps
1 Pump 1 ON
2 Pump 2 ON
3 Pump 1 and 2 OFF
Up to 5 float switches can be connected to
the switchgear for controlling a maximum of
2 pumps:
• Pump 1 ON
• Pump 2 ON
• Pump 1 and 2 OFF
• Dry-running level
• High water level
The float switch should be equipped with a nor-
mally open contact, i.e. on reaching or exceeding
the switching point, the contact is closed.
