Taking a picture with a strobe

To interrupt a self-timer operation
Press the release button before the shutter is released.
When picture taking is finished
Set the PLAY/CAMERA/OFF switch to OFF to turn off the power to the
camera to save battery power.
For details on how to use a strobe, see the instruction manual of the strobe
to be used.

Insert and fix a strobe to the strobe shoe of the camera.

Connect the synchronization cord of the strobe to the FLASH jack of
the camera.

Set the FLASH switch of the camera to ON.

Adjust the frame by monitoring the LCD of the camera.

Adjust the iris of the lens according to the guide number (GN) of the
strobe and the distance between the subject and the lens.
For manual operation of the strobe: Set the iris referring to the chart
on the next page.
For automatic operation of the strobe: Set the iris referring to the
chart for automatic operation provided in the instruction manual for the
strobe. In this case, the ISO number corresponding to this camera is
ISO160.

Press the release button on the camera.
About the strobe to be used
• A strobe that only has a hot shoe cannot be used with this camera.
• It is recommended to use a strobe with which iris setting around f-5.6 is
possible. About the relationship between the GN of a strobe and the f-
stop of the iris, see "Setting of the iris (f-stop) according to the GN of a strobe."
• The color quality of a printout may differ depending on the strobe used.
Adjust the color quality of a printout, if necessary, by menu operation
(page 42).
About the guide number
• The guide number (GN) indicates the intensity of light to expect from a
strobe.
• The correlation among the GN, the distance between the lens and the
subject, and the iris is expressed as follows:
GN = f × d (f = iris setting, d = distance between the lens and the subject)
