Tips
To enjoy an aromatic espresso or coffee, please note the following tips:
Always preheat the cups on the hotplate (1).
Rinse out the cups with hot water immediately before using them.
Always fill the water tank (15) with fresh water. Do not use any water that has been in the
water tank for longer than 12 hours.
After the device has heated up, first allow hot water for 1 – 2 double espressos to run
through the sieve insert (7, 8) and the portafilter (9) before you fill them with espresso
powder.
Experiment with the amount of espresso powder to suit your own personal taste. As a
guideline, you can reckon on 7 g of espresso powder for a single espresso.
If you want to make milk froth, once the device has heated up first allow hot steam to run
through the steam nozzle (5).
If possible, always use freshly ground espresso powder to achieve an optimum flavour.
The grinding fineness of the espresso powder also has an influence on the aroma and the
crema. Here too you can experiment with different grinding finenesses.
Do not press down the espresso powder in the portafilter too firmly. If the espresso powder
is pressed too much, this increases the processing time, thus producing increased levels of
bitter compounds.
A higher temperature is required to make milk froth than to brew an espresso. Our recom-
mendation: first prepare the espresso and place it down on the hotplate, and then froth up
the milk.
If you do want to make an espresso after frothing the milk, the machine needs to cool down
first. You can speed up this process by cleaning the steam nozzle as the water which emerges
will also cool down the heating and the pipes (see the "Cleaning and Care" chapter – "Clean-
ing the Steam Nozzle").
Empty and clean the sieve insert after each use.
Regularly clean and descale the device (see the "Cleaning and Care" chapter – "Descaling").
A dirty and / or furredup device compromises the flavour.
