SYSTEM DONNING AND USER SEAL CHECKS
Begin system donning with the breathing tube attached to the facepiece. Refer to "Facepiece to Breathing Tube Assembly" steps 1-2 for instructions.
Failure to follow these User Instructions may reduce respirator performance, overexpose you to contaminants, and may result in sickness or
death.
• To help maintain a good seal between the face and the faceseal, the respirator faceseal must be clear of obstructions at all times. Do not use
with beards or facial hair that prevent direct contact between the face and the respirator faceseal. Do not use with corrective eyeglasses. If
corrective eyeglasses are required, a 3M™ Spectacle Kit must be used inside the respirator.
• Do not enter a contaminated area until the respirator system has been properly donned. Do not remove the respirator before leaving the
contaminated area.
Donning the Half Facepiece Respirator
1. Lift the Y-branches of the BT-60 Series Breathing Tube along with the facepiece over your head so the faceseal of the respirator is in front of you,
the Y-branches of the breathing tube are resting on your shoulders, and the trunk of the breathing tube is running down your back.
2. Place respirator over your mouth and nose, then pull head harness over crown of your head (Fig. 9).
3. Take bottom straps in both hands, place them in back of your neck, and hook them together (Fig. 10).
4. Position facepiece low on the bridge of your nose for optimal visibility and best fit.
5. Adjust top straps first (Fig. 11), then lower neck straps by pulling on ends. DO NOT pull too tight. (Strap tension may be decreased by pushing out
on back side of buckles.)
User Seal Checks
Always check the seal of the respirator on your face before entering a contaminated area. You must pass either the positive pressure user seal check
or the negative pressure user seal check (or both) prior to using the respirator in a contaminated area. If you cannot achieve a proper fit, DO NOT enter
contaminated area. See your supervisor.
Positive Pressure User Seal Check
1. Place the palm of your hand over the exhalation valve cover and exhale gently. If facepiece bulges slightly and no air leaks are detected between
your face and the facepiece, a proper fit has been obtained (Fig. 12).
