The instructions for use of this equipment consist of general instructions and specific
instructions. Both sets of instructions must be carefully read before use. Caution!
This document only contains specific instructions.
EN 566/UIAA 109 SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS.
This document contains the information necessary to correctly use the following
product/products: Alp Loop dynamic rope sewn loops.
1) FIELD OF APPLICATION.
EN 566:2017. Mountaineering equipment - Slings. UIAA 109. Belay lanyard.
This product is a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against falls from a height;
it complies with Regulation (EU) 2016/425. Caution! The product can only be
used in combination with CE-marked equipment, mountaineering equipment such
as connectors (EN 12275), harnesses (EN 12277) etc.
2) NOTIFIED BODIES.
Refer to the explanatory key within the general instructions (paragraph 9 / table
D): M2; N1.
3) NOMENCLATURE (Fig. 3). A) Rope. B) Sheath. C) Core. D) Explanatory label.
E) Safety stitching. F) Protective sleeve.
3.1 - Principal materials. Refer to the explanatory key within the general instruc-
tions (paragraph 2.4): 7 (rope); 13 (stitching).
4) MARKING.
Numbers/letters without caption: please refer to the explanatory key within the
general instructions (paragraph 5).
4.1 - General (Fig. 2). Captions within the general instructions: 1; 2; 4; 6; 8; 11;
13; 14; 30) Warnings stating that the product should not be used for via ferrata.
4.2 - Traceability (Fig. 2). Captions within the general instructions: T2; T8; T9.
5) INSPECTIONS.
In addition to the inspection instructions listed below, please follow the guidelines
given in the general instructions (paragraph 3). Before each use make sure that:
the rope shows no sign of damage (Fig. 10) and, when it is bent as shown (Fig.
10.1-10.3), the resulting curve looks even (Fig. 5.5); the whole stitching shows
no sign of damage (Fig. 10.2). Caution! The presence of unsuitable knots tied on
the equipment may compromise its strength.
6) EN 566 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
Alp Loop rope slings can be placed around an anchor of suitable shape and
strength. Caution! The cross-section of the anchor and any knot on the rope may
reduce the strength of the equipment. Caution! A rope sliding over the rope loop
may cause the loop to break (Fig. 5.3). Alp Loop rope slings can also be used
to equalize anchors at belay stations, paying attention to the angle put in place
at the vertex, where the legs of rope meet: the smaller the angle, the more effec-
tive the equalization of the forces is when the belay anchors are loaded (Fig.
5.4÷5.6). Finally, Alp Loop rope slings can be used to create progression quick-
draws when two EN 12275 connectors are installed, one at each end of the
loop. Caution! Never use rubber sling-fasteners: the connector may accidentally
detach from the rope loop (Fig. 11).
7) UIAA 109 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
Alp Loop rope slings can be used as primary connection between the climber
and the anchor point (Fig. 9.1). Moreover, they can be used as lanyard for the
connection to the descender while abseiling (Fig. 9.2).
7.1 - Installation. Insert the device throughout the belay loop of the harness and
tie it using a lark's foot (Fig. 8.1÷8.3). Caution! Never use any other type of
connecting knot.
7.2 - Connecting to the anchor point. Only use a EN 12275 connector equipped
with a locking gate while connecting to an anchor point or to the descender.
7.3 - Safety requirements. This equipment is made of dynamic rope and, as such,
it is able to absorb the shock transmitted to the user in case of a fall. UIAA 109
standard requires the rope loop to withstand three successive factor-2 falls; it also
requires the peak force of the first fall to be less than 10 kN (Fig. 7). Caution! The
anchor point should always be located above the user. In all cases, it is imperative
that the user never places himself/herself above the anchor point (Fig. 6).
8) SYMBOLS. Please refer to the explanatory key within the general instructions
(paragraph 16): F1; F2; F6; F7; F9.
