12.1 Pulsoximeter
Note for clinicians: Information regarding the range of the top wavelengths and
maximum optical capacity of the light emitted by the pulsoximeter can be useful to
clinicians who are applying photodynamic therapy.

Determination of accuracy:
The accuracy of the SpO2 measurement was determined using clinical measurement
methods.
Therefore the oxygen saturation values of the arterial hemoglobin measured with the
pulse oximeter were compared with measured values determined with the aid of a CO
oximeter in arterial blood samples. Verified by clinical tests in which the measured
values of the sensors have been compared with those of the arterial CO oximetry in
adult specimens in the specified SpO2 range.
1)
The specification of the accuracy of the SpO2 values here corresponds to the root of
the mean square deviation from the corresponding CO-oximeter measurement. SpO2i
are the measured saturations of the pulse oximeter, SRi that of the CO oximeter. The
values mentioned are the rounded results of the adjacent formula. The measurements
of the oxygen saturation of a pulse oximeter are statistically distributed in comparison
to the measurements on the same blood sample with one CO-Oximeter. Therefore,
approximately 68% of the SpO2 measurements of the pulse oximeter are within of the
indicated error limits eRMS.
