2. Place the pump in a suitable area where it can be
cleaned thoroughly.
3. Remove all scale and deposits from the pump.
4. Submerge the complete pump in a disinfectant
solution (chlorox or chlorine) for at least an hour
before disassembly.
Grinder Disassembly:
Hazardous voltage and hazardous
cutter. Before removing pump
from basin for service, always
disconnect electrical power to
pump and control switch. Always
keep hands and other body parts
away from grinder assembly in
pump suction.
1. Follow instructions under "Pump Removal''.
2. After removal and disinfecting, lay pump on its side and
remove drain plug from seal plate. Drain oil from oil filled
motors. (If oil is not contaminated, it may be reused.)
3. Remove six cap screws (Key No. 1) securing the volute
(Key No. 32) to the seal plate (Key No. 20) and remove
the volute.
4. Inspect the cutter, cutter ring, impeller, and volute (Key
Nos. 29, 34, 28, and 32) for wear. Replace any worn
parts.
Shaft Seal Disassembly:
1. Follow steps 1 through 4 under "Grinder Disassembly".
2. Remove the impeller retaining bolt and retainer (Key
Nos. 31 and 30).
3. Using two pry bars between the impeller and the cutter
pry the cutter (Key No. 29) off of the shaft.
NOTICE: To apply even pressure and avoid bending the
shaft, locate pry bars on opposite sides of the shaft.
4. Using two 5/16-18 threaded holes provided in the
impeller, pull the impeller. Remove the impeller shims
from the shaft and save them.
5. Remove the seal spring and seal head (Key No. 22).
6. Remove the three cap screws that secure the back plate
(Key No. 25) to the seal plate (Key No. 20) and remove
the back plate. If the back plate does not lift off, tap
around it with a plastic or rawhide mallet to break it
loose.
7. If the outer seal is being replaced, pry the stationary
face out of the back plate.
NOTICE: If the outer seal has failed, replace the inner seal
also.
8. To remove the inner seal, remove the snap ring (Key No.
23) behind the seal washer and remove the washer,
spring, and seal head. Pry the stationary seal face out of
the seal plate.
Reassembly:
NOTICE: Use all new O-Rings and seals during
re-assembly.
1. Press a new ceramic seal head into place in the seal
plate. Be sure that you do not damage the seal face
when sliding it over the shaft shoulder.
2. Clean out the seal cavity in the back plate and press a
new ceramic seal head into place in the seal plate. Be
sure that you do not scratch or otherwise damage the
seal face.
3. Replace the spring seal head on the shaft; the carbon
face should be next to the ceramic face. Be sure you do
not damage the carbon face when putting the spring
seal head on the shaft.
4. Replace the back plate on the seal plate with the ceramic
seal facing out. Install the three cap screws and tighten.
5. Replace the outer spring seal head. Make sure that the
carbon face meets the ceramic face; do not damage the
carbon face when installing it on the shaft.
6. Replace impeller shims, impeller and cutter; secure
assembly with retaining cap screw.
NOTICE: The impeller must have .005" (0.13mm) to .010"
(0.36mm) clearance between the impeller vanes and the
volute inside the bottom surface of the volute. If necessary,
adjust the impeller shims to provide this clearance.
NOTICE: Use high-strength Loc-Tite to hold the impeller
retaining screw.
7. Install the volute; install the six cap screws and tighten.
8. Refill the seal plate with oil and replace the plug.
