4.5.3 Positioning:
Travel can be stopped at any time by increasing the traction power on the rope. In the case of
brief pauses, the rope can be inserted in the rope clamp (after complete stop) and the device will
GB
maintain its position.
The rope should only be clamped for a SHORT period and should not be
used in this position for long breaks or continuous work.
The rope may be inadvertently pulled out of the clamp, causing absei-
ling to continue abruptly. This unexpected change in position does not
present any danger of falling, but may alarm the operator and cause an
undesired reaction (dropping tools, incorrect operation of the device),
as well as injuries.
For longer pauses, the operator should place the free-wheel button back to UP and lock the me-
chanism so that the device is permanently secured against further movement. When ascending
or abseiling is continued, the procedures described in Points 4.5.1 or 4.5.2 should be followed.
4.6 TIPS FOR ROPING OF 2 PERSONS
With normal abseiling of a person with a single rope the speed can be steered through holding
on of the counterrope or the departure be interrupted. Nevertheless, with increasing load, so in
particular with use for concurrent roping of two persons, this becomes more and more difficult.
With a bypass of the counterrope the necessary strength can be reduced.
Hence, we recommend to work with the 2-person-use always with ropebypass. With the
2-person-use according to ANSI for the application in the USA, a ropebypass is prescribed com-
pelling.
4.7 SELF-DESCENDING
If there are no other people than the victim and the rescuer available, there is nobody to disconnect
the victim from the descending rope. It may be necessary to call for further help or apply First Aid
treatments. In this case the rescuer can descend by lowering the device with him. The descending
rope is connected to the anchor point. The rescuer is attaching him directly to the suspension eye of
the device and descends by taking the device with him. On devices having a rescue winch is stron-
gly advised to use a connecting element according EN 354 between the harness and the device in
order to avoid injuries by the rotating wheel.
ATTENTION:
The device offers a huge number of application possibilities for diffe-
rent rescue situations. To restraint of these technologies, a careful
education of the users is offered by professional and especially in the
device MILAN, qualified rescue trainers.
