1.4. Storage

1.4.1
Storage must be carried out by competent personnel and in accordance with applicable International, National and Local
regulations, especially for hazardous areas.
Recommend that fan equipment is installed upon delivery, however, if this is not possible then storage must be controlled.
For storage beyond 1 month, to maximum 12 months, refer:- Annex 1: Extended storage checklist.
This especially applies to ATEX fan products, and checklist must be completed.
Also refer motor O + M Instructions, where provided, for further guidance.
Storage must be in a safe, flat, controlled environment to prevent damage, especially from water, sand, dust, moisture,
corrosion, temperature. Recommend that duct connections (inflow and outflow) are closed / covered to avoid
entering the equipment.
Large fans with metal impellers, should be stored so that:-
Impellers must be rotated minimum 10 turns once a month and left in different angular position.
Motor insulation tested every 3 months.
Motor anti-condensation heater energized, if fitted.
Storage must not exceed 1 year, without review by supplier / manufacturer for possible damage to motor, bearings, grease,
drive belts. Regular inspection and check list to be completed.
These data may also apply to an installed fan, which is not put into operation for extended period.
Before starting the equipment check all moving parts to ensure free movement, and refer to check list prior to start up.

2. Installation

2.1 Installation must be carried out by competent personnel and in accordance with applicable International, National and Local
regulations, especially for hazardous areas. Fan equipment should be electrically isolated and locked out before any work started.
2.2
For ATEX, working area must be safe, all tools must be safe to use in area, and checked in and out after installation, all cable
connections, glands must comply with Zone / area requirements. Refer relevant prevailing guidance, especially IEC EN
60079-14.
2.3 Before any installation work is started, ensure that fan equipment is correct for application. Location for installation is solid, level, flat
and suitable for mounting fan assembly. Anti-vibration mounting and flexible connections are recommended to reduce noise and
vibration transmission to structure.
2.4 Fan should be located in position, and assembled with any accessory equipment supplied, on relevant mounting, anti-vibration
mountings, safety protection guards, on a solid level base to avoid any distortion and misalignment and with correct air direction as
shown on nameplate. Fan should then be leveled on any anti-vibration mountings.
Note: high pressure fans may require subsequent adjustment to anti-vibration mountings due to fan reaction to operation pressure.
Note: ensure bolts are tightened in accordance with Installers chosen supplier, or refer typical information in Annex 2: Typical bolt
fixing torque
2.5 When installed correctly, fan duct connections with any flexible connectors, safety guards can be assembled. Flexible connectors must
be taught to ensure no disruption to air flow, especially on inlet to fan.
2.6 When installed correctly, fan electrical connections, earth connections, any sensor connections can be made. Only the specific motor,
or fan terminals, should be used for Installers connections.
Many S&P fans are supplied with a cable gland for typical electrical power cable connection, to assist installation. However, if Installer
uses a cable requiring a differing cable gland, this is to be supplied by the Installer, no alternative is offered by S&P.
The Installer is responsible to ensure that cable, and cable gland, are suitable and safe for application.
This is especially important for ATEX and Flameproof applications.
2.7 When installed correctly, check all duct and electrical connections are correct.
2.8 Pre start-up check can be done.
For ATEX pre start-up refer: Annex 3: Pre-start checklist
Typical drawings of fan equipment, refer:- Annex 5: Typical fan assemblies Axial fan.

3. Start up

3.1 Pre start-up inspection and starting must be carried out by competent personnel and in accordance with applicable International,
National and Local regulations, especially for ATEX hazardous areas. Fan equipment should be electrically isolated and locked out
before any work started.
3.2
For ATEX refer to check list prior to start up. Annex 3: Pre-start checklist
3.3
For ATEX check fan equipment name plate data is correct type and appropriate to the location requirement, especially the
EPL / Zone, Equipment Group, equipment temperature class, IP grade, and ambient temperature are correct.
