All fans, including
ATEX fans, are designed for use in standard atmospheric conditions as defined in IEC 60079-0, and ambient air / ducted air
conditions within, -20°C to +40°C, unless stated otherwise.
1.1.1
S & P manufacture various fan equipment with a sourced / sub-supplier motor.
Spare parts are provided for S&P fan equipment with sourced / sub-supplier motor, since these are larger fans enabling
replacement of parts. Typical spare parts are:
For direct drive fans:- Complete motor.
Typical S&P direct drive fan type:
Axial:- TGT, THGT, TGT ATEX.
Only S&P supplied spare parts are to be used for all fans.
1.1.2
Any work including transport, installation, inspection, maintenance, service spares replacement, repair and final end of life
disposal must be carried out by competent persons and supervised by competent executive.
For ATEX products, further guidance can be found in:-
IEC EN 60079 – 14: Electrical installations design, selection and erection
IEC EN 60079 – 17: Electrical installations inspection and maintenance
IEC EN 60079 – 19: Equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation
1.1.3
EC declaration of conformity is attached as separate documentation to the fan product.
1.1.4
This O + M Instruction manual is subject to modifications due to further technical developments of the fan described, images
and drawings may be simplified representations. Due to improvements and modifications the fan operated may differ from the
representations. We reserve the right to vary the product without prior notice.
1.1.5
For ATEX fans, no modification or repair may be made, refer to directive 94 / 9 / EC ATEX, without prior agreement
with manufacturer, especially with regard to gap between rotating parts / impeller and fixed fan parts / casing.
For THGT fans, no modification or repair may be made, without prior agreement with manufacturer, especially with regard
to gap between rotating parts / impeller and fixed fan parts / casing.

1.2 Safety instructions

1.2.1
Safety on site is responsibility of competent personnel and in accordance with applicable International, National and Local
regulations, especially for hazardous ATEX areas. Fan equipment should be electrically isolated and locked out before any
work started.
Installation of ATEX fan equipment requires extra attention to ensure safe operation.
Safety guard accessories are available from S&P if required due to specific installation.
Safety protective clothing, equipment, hearing protection, and tools may be required.
1.2.2 Safe selection:
Fan equipment selected based on competent users / employers / competent person, data and for
assessment, and thus fan equipment must meet, or exceed this.
Users electrical supply, air duty, and any relevant data, for example if speed control is required must be considered.
Guidance on area ventilation rates for ATEX may be found in IEC EN 60079-10-1
All fan data applicable to "Standard Air" with ambient air / ducted air temperature within range, -20°C to +40°C unless stated
otherwise, and for ATEX refer IEC EN 60079.
1.2.3
Safe ventilation:
Ensure adequate ventilation available to fan and motor. Working ambient temperature for fan equipment should not be
exceeded, typically this will be within -20°C to +40°C, unless stated otherwise.
1.2.4
Safe operation:
Ensure any fan / motor temperature protection devices are fitted and operating correctly,
motored products, and all ATEX Ex d motored products speed controlled by VSD Frequency Inverter.
Warning: To prevent ATEX Ex e motored product temperature rise exceeding the maximum limit, protection devices must
trip:
A) If maximum temperature achieved.
B) Within specified time (tE) if short circuit or short circuit current to rated current ratio achieved (IA / IN) This data is found
on Ex e motor labels.
Refer IEC EN 60079 -7, IEC EN 60079 – 14.
Emergency ventilation fan and motors are suitable for S1 duty cycle, and one off emergency smoke operation, where fan is able
to run at stated temperature and time, or to destruction, and thus no motor protection devices must stop this. The fan motor
power supply must be designed to accomodate any motor protection devices, where applicable, for S1 duty cycle and these
