CHIMNEY OR CHIMNEY FLUE
The chimney or chimney flue should comply with the following characteristics:
•
It's advisable to read, follow and respect what indicated in the paragraphe
−
Rules, regulations and prescriptions
It must be tight to combustion products, waterproof and suitably insulated and
−
isolated according to the conditions for use.
It must be made of materials able to withstand normal mechanical stress, heat,
−
action of combustion products and possible condensation.
−
Its direction must be mainly vertical with axis deviations not exceeding 45°.
−
It must be placed at a suitable distance from combustible or flammable materials, by
means of an air space buffer or proper insulator.
−
It should preferably have a circular cross-section. Square or rectangular sections
must have round corners with a radius not less than 20 mm.
Its cross-section must be constant, free and indipendent.
−
−
Its rectangluar sections must have a maximum ratio of 1:5 between sides.
−
The indications given by the manufacturer about the section and construction
characteristics of the chimney/flue must be followed. For particular sections, section
or routing variations, it is necessary to check for proper working of exhaust fumes
system with a proper computational method for fluid dynamics.
It is advisable to have the flue fitted with a chamber for collection of solid material
−
and possible condensation, placed under the opening of the smoke duct, so that it
can be easily opened and inspected through the airtight inspection door.
In case of fire of chimney or flue, use suitable systems to smother flames and seek
−
help from local fire service.
APPLIANCE CONNECTION TO THE CHIMNEY FLUE AND EVACUATION OF
COMBUSTION PRODUCTS
It's advisable to read, follow and respect what indicated in the paragraphe
•
Rules, regulations and prescriptions
The connection between the appliance and the chimney flue must receive exhaust fumes
•
from one heat generator only.
It is possible to realise an appliance including a fireplace and a cooking oven with a
•
single exhaust point to the chimney, for which the manufacturer shall provide the
construction characteristics of the connections to the smoke ducts.
It is forbidden to convey exhaust from hoods above cooking appliances in the same
•
smoke duct.
The discharge towards closed spaces is forbidden, even if they have an open ceiling.
•
The direct discharge of exhaust fumes must be on the roof and the chimney flue must
•
have the characteristics described above.
•
Any horizontal section must have a minimum slope of 3%
•
It is forbidden to provide forced-draw appliances with devices to adjust draw manually.
•
Fumes ducts must always be tight to products of combustion and condensation. In case
of outdoor installation, they must be insulated.
