General Safety
Information
(continued)
7. Pumping chemicals or corrosive
liquids with this pump may shorten
the life of the pump and may be
hazardous to the operator. This
pump is intended for pumping only
substantially clean water at
ambient temperature.
8. Personal Safety:
a. Wear safety glasses and
hearing protection at all
times when working
with pumps.
b. Keep work area clean, uncluttered
and properly lighted; replace all
unused tools and equipment.
c. Keep visitors at a safe distance from
the work area.
d. Make workshop child-proof with
padlocks, master switches, and by
removing starter keys.
9. Always use a suction strainer with this
pump to filter debris as debris can
damage the pump.

OIL AND FUEL MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Old and/or improperly mixed fuel are
the main reasons for the unit not
running properly. Be sure to use fresh,
(less than 60 days old,) clean unleaded
fuel. Carefully follow the instructions
for the proper fuel/oil mixture.
DEFINITION OF BLENDED FUELS
Today's fuels are often a blend of
gasoline and oxygenates such as
ethanol, methanol, or MTBE. Alcohol
blended fuel absorbs water. As little as
1% water in the fuel can make the fuel
and oil separate and leads to the
formation of acids during storage.
When using alcohol blended fuel, use
fresh fuel.
USING BLENDED FUELS
If a blended fuel is used:
• Always use fresh fuel.
• Always agitate the fuel mix before
fueling the unit
• Drain the tank and run the engine
dry before storing the unit.
• Store the fuel in an approved
container away from direct sunlight
and cap container tightly.

USING FUEL ADDITIVES
Use a good 2-cycle oil designed for air-
cooled engines that contains fuel
stabilizer.
If 2-cycle oil with fuel stabilizer is
unavailable, a fuel stabilizer, such as
STA-BIL® Gas Stabilizer, should be used.
A fuel stabilizer will help inhibit corrosion
and minimize the formation of gum
deposits. Follow the mixing instructions
on the container. NEVER add fuel
additives directly to the unit's fuel tank.
TO OBTAIN CORRECT FUEL MIX
Thoroughly mix the proper ratio of
2-cycle engine oil with unleaded gasoline
in a separate fuel can. When mixing,
it is best to add the oil to the can before
filling the can with fuel. Use a 40:1
fuel/oil ratio. Do not mix them directly
in the engine fuel tank. See the table
below:

extremely flammable.
Ignited vapors may explode.
Always stop the engine and
allow it to cool before filling the fuel
tank. Do not smoke while filling the
tank. Keep sparks and open flames at a
distance from the area. Do not store
fuel near an ignition source such as a
water heater, furnace, etc.

a clean, well
ventilated outdoor area. Wipe up any
spilled fuel immediately. Avoid
creating a source of ignition for spilled
fuel. Do not start the engine until fuel
vapors dissipate.
NOTE: Dispose of old fuel/oil mix in
accordance with Federal, State, and
Local regulations.

Installation
This pump is designed to be self-
priming when installed and operated
as specified below.
1. The pump should be placed as close
as possible to the liquid being
pumped. A pump with 25 feet of
suction lift will not remove water as
quickly as a pump with 5 feet of
suction lift (Figure 1). Additionally,
priming time for a high suction lift
is very long. Suction lifts greater
than 20 feet are not recommended.

2. Suction hose and fitting must be
airtight.
An air leak in the
NOTICE
suction line will
prevent priming of the pump. Use of
thread sealant is recommended.
Suction lines must be reinforced
hose or rigid pipe. Non-reinforced
hose will collapse due to the suction
created by the pump and prevent
pump from operating. If flexible
suction hose is used instead of pipe,
use a reinforced hose with at least a
3/4" inner diameter.

piping when
assembling and after installation. Failure
to do so may cause piping to break, pump
to fail, etc; all of which can result in
property damage and/or personal injury.
