(continued)
Possible Cause(s)
1. No water in pump
2. Suction lift distance is too
high
3. Suction connections leak
air
4. Suction strainer is clogged
5. Suction strainer is not
submerged
6. Suction hose is collapsing
7. Suction is clogged
8. Foot valve is clogged
9. Inlet is clogged
10. Impeller threads are
stripped
1. Priming plug is loose
2. Inlet cover bolts
tightened improperly
3. Engine mounting bolts
are loose
4. Pump seal is damaged
5. Pump O-rings are
damaged
Corrective Action
1. Remove priming plug, completely fill pump with water,
replace priming plug
2. Place pump closer to water source
Pump should be no more than 20 feet above the water level
3. Suction connections must be airtight
Seal all connections with Teflon tape or paste
4. Clean suction strainer, place strainer where it won't become
clogged with debris or small stones
5. Place strainer in deep enough water to prevent air from
being pulled into suction
6. Use reinforced hose or rigid pipe for the suction line
Avoid kinks and sharp bends
Reduce the suction lift height
7. Remove the suction hose/pipe and verify it is not clogged
Use a strainer at the end of the inlet to prevent large stones
or debris from clogging pump.
8. Clean or replace foot valve
9. Remove the inlet cover; inspect impeller and inlet for clogs
Use a strainer at the end of the inlet to prevent large
stones or debris from clogging pump
10. Replace impeller
Use a strainer at the end of the inlet to prevent large stones
or debris from damaging impeller
1. Remove priming plug
Inspect o-ring for damage, replace plug if damaged
Reinstall priming plug
2. Remove inlet cover
Reseat the o-ring
With inlet flat against the pump body, install all 4 bolts hand
tight; then tighten each bolt 1/4 turn in succession until
torque reaches 100-130 in-lbs
3. Tighten engine mounting bolts to 40-60 in-lbs
4. Replace pump seal
5. Replace all o-rings
