2.2 Deactivating the side airbag
Deactivation on the vehicle (Figure K)
1.
Insert the yellow/violet connector with the black
unconnected cable end (housing no. 8D0 972 576)
into the yellow/violet connector on the vehicle.
2.
Attach the "Side airbag disabled!" warning sticker
in a clearly visible place, i.e. near the driver or
passenger door or on the corresponding B column.
The side airbag in the vehicle is disabled.
If the airbag indicator lamp is still lit once the installation
work is complete:
Check the plug connection and have the vehicle's
error memory cleared by a specialised workshop.
Deactivation on the original seat (Figure L)
Insert the yellow/violet connector with the brown cable
loop (housing no. 8D0 972 586) into the yellow/violet
connector on the original seat.
The side airbag at the original seat is disabled.
2.3 Refitting the side airbag (Figure M)
Insert the yellow/violet connector on the RECARO
seat with side airbag into the yellow/violet connector
in the vehicle.
The side airbag is now refitted.
2.4 Refitting the original seat
1.
Make the preparations as described in Section
"Safety instructions".
2.
Pull out the yellow/violet connector with the black
unconnected cable end on the vehicle or disconnect
the connection between the vehicle and RECARO
seat with side airbag.
3.
Pull out the yellow/violet connector with blue cable
loop on the original seat and disable the RECARO
seat side airbag.
4.
Connect the yellow/violet connector attached to the
vehicle with the yellow/violet connector attached to
the seat.
5.
Remove the "Side airbag disabled" warning sticker.
The side airbag of the original seat is connected again.
If the airbag indicator lamp is still lit once the installation
work is complete:
Check both plug connections and take the vehicle to
a workshop to delete the fault memory.
B3 Installation instructions for refitting the
SBR sensor
The console includes (Figure N):
(11) Crimp contacts with socket for the SBR sensor
(12) Black connector for the SBR sensor
(13) Vehicle-specific resistance cable
WARNING
Unintentional triggering of airbags and belt
tensioners!
Serious injuries caused by flying parts.
Only a specialist workshop may refit airbags and
belt tensioners.
Remove the ignition key and do not re-insert it until
refitting has been completed.
Disconnect the battery negative terminal and leave
the battery disconnected until refitting has been
completed.
Before starting work, wait for 20 minutes so that the
capacitors in the belt tensioners' and airbags' con-
trol units have time to discharge.
3.1 Fitting the connectors
Key to Figures O, P, Q
a) Original connector interface for safety belt reminder
(SBR)
b) Original seat
e) RECARO seat
1.
Find the wiring assembly on the original cable
harness that connects to the SBR (safety belt
reminder).
2.
Cut the SBR cable harness at a suitable point on the
original seat harness.
Attention: There must be enough cable left on both
sides of the disconnection point to fit the connector.
3.
Strip the cut cables (2 wires).
4.
Insert the crimp contacts with socket (11) onto the
two wires and crimp them with a suitable crimping
tool.
5.
Insert the crimp contact with socket into the black
connector (12).
Refitting the SBR sensor (Figure O)
1.
Plug the enclosed vehicle-specific resistance
cable (13) attached to the RECARO seat to the SBR
connection (14).
2.
Connect the other end of the resistance cable (13)
with the black connector (12) on the modified wiring
assembly to the vehicle.
