Technical Information: Photoelectric sensors, SICK Smart Sensors /
All IO-Link devices have a backup and restore functionality - Data Storage (DS). The
IO-Link Data Storage function can be used to save previous parameters and transmit
them to the replacement device.
The prerequisite for this is connection of the device to an IO-Link Master, and activation
of the storage function in the IO-Link Master.
Details on sensor replacement can be found in the detailed IO-Link description:
cal Information: Photoelectric sensors, SICK Smart Sensors /
The sensor must be disposed of in line with applicable country-specific regulations.
When disposing of them, you should try to recycle them (especially the precious met‐
als).
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Cause
Voltage interruptions
Distance between the sensor
and the background is too
short
Distance between the sensor
and the object is too long or
sensing range is set too short
Depolarizing property of the
object surface (e.g., tape),
reflection
Distance between sensor and
object is too long / Light spot
is not correctly aligned with
the object.
Sensor mounting unstable
Sensor is faulty

Measures
Check the power supply,
check all electrical connec‐
tions (cables and plug connec‐
tions)
Reduce the sensing range
Increase the sensing range
Check operating mode, config‐
uration and operating condi‐
tions.
Check sensing range / Check
alignment
Check assembly and settings
If the power supply is OK,
replace the sensor
